BEN FOLDS Talk about leaving town and making a name for yourself. Folds, a Winston-Salem native, formed Ben Folds Five in the mid-'90s and saw tons of success throughout their seven-year run. He, wisely, continued to put out solo projects. Now a solo act, he's not exactly making "punk rock for sissies" as he once put it, but with collaborator, Nick Hornby, he's put out solid, interesting music. Some with a hint of humor, others despair but always well-executed. His viral presence can't be understated as well — cool videos. $41.50, The Fillmore Charlotte, www.livenation.com
