Grown Up Avenger Stuff is relatively new on the Charlotte music scene, but that's not to say they haven't made an impact already. The band has infused a fresh breath into the rock landscape in town and tonight's CD release party at Amos' is about as big as the band's talents and love of the scene it's a part of.
I don't know that I see as much support from other bands as in, these guys (and gal) are everywhere. They're checking out local shows, covering other local artists and doing whatever they can to make the scene a better one.
Tonight's the night for fans and the scene to give a little back. Along with GUAS, there will be performances by Zoe Vette and the Revolvers and The Spiveys. That's not enough? Chow Tiger and Weezer cover band Dope Nose will be there too.
Still not enough? They're giving away two iPod touches.
Still not enough? (Getting greedy, aren't you?) What about cupcakes? Or getting a free tattoo?
My recommendation to fans and the band would b relax, have fun and enjoy the hell out of it!
Ticket's for tonight's all ages show are $10. See you there!

I just got sent a link to the new video from Gangrene for the song "Overdose." When the publicist told me it was NSFW in any way, he wasn't kidding.
How's the song? I don't remember... I was blinded by the images contained within.
It's not for the faint of heart. It's not for the weak-stomached. Don't say I didn't warn you.

Tom Waits, Neil Diamond, Alice Cooper, Dr. John and Darlene Love are set to enter the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.
However, when every new class is announced, there also begins the inevitable discussion of who was left out. Among those are Stevie Ray Vaughn, Kiss, Frank Sinatra, Rush, Bon Jovi, Cat Stevens, Yes, Peter Gabriel... and the list goes on.
It just makes you wonder what the criteria is for getting elected to the Hall and how so many good bands are overlooked.
Here's a quick rundown of some of the new releases hitting stores this week:
Ryan Adams & The Cardinals III/IV
Crystal Bowersox Farmer's Daughter
Ciara Basic Instinct
Deadmau5 4x4=12
Diddy Dirty Money Last Train to Paris
Michael Jackson Michael
R. Kelly Love Letter
New video from Charlotte emcee, Dow Jones, for his single, "One More Sip" from The Lyrics and Liquor EP, which dropped in November, is still available as a free download here.
Shot by local production company, iLuddy.
Over the weekend, thieves broke into the NoDa studio where Joe Kuhlmann records many of the local bands around town. Sadly, they stole a number of items, among them:
1. 1965 Hofner Violin Bass w/ original case and strap. Just like Paul's just a right handed one. :(
2. 1995 Fender Jazz Bass Black w/ white pickguard Bartolini p/u w/ Aguilar Pre & BADASS II Bridge. Yes she was a Frankenstien Bass.
3. 1992 Gibson Nighthawk. Honeyburst electric, looks kinda like a small Les Paul, with Strat pickups.
4. Fender Tele 72 reissue Brown w/ double humbuckers
5. Epiphone Firebird Elec w/ Triple p/u in case
6. Ibanez Talman Semi-Hollow electric dual humbuckers silver
7. Jerry Jones Short Horn 2 Black w/ White Pickguard 3 Lipstick p/u Like Jimmy Page's
8. Roland JC 120 Head
9. Fender 1973 Champ guitar amp
10. 2 Flat Panel Computer Monitors
Keep your eyes out for them in pawn shops, etc.
Also, on Jan. 1 at the Evening Muse, a benefit show is being planned by Triple S Promotions and MaxxMusic to help Joe get some equipment back so that he can return to his recording ways.
You can also make donations here.
UPDATE: Just spoke with Joe Kuhlmann who said that arrests have been made and a couple of items have been recovered, but it's "only a drop in the bucket" so far.

There are articles and videos all over the Internet today remembering John Lennon on the 30th anniversary of his death. Listen to some Beatles music, or Lennon music or just take a moment to wonder what it would have been like if he was never killed and still making music today.
