10-in-10 CD reviews

Posted By on Fri, Mar 18, 2011 at 10:23 AM

Each Friday, we review 10 recently released CDs in 10 words each:

The Steven L. Smith Band Pieces — Hints of honky tonk roll through decent bar band sound.

Deadlock Bizarre World — Female vocals help break up the horrible cookie monster growling.

Caitlin Rose Own Side Now — Nashville-born singer goes with an old-style sound… meh.

The Damnwells No One Listens to the Band Anymore — Brooklyn indie rockers release fourth album — hints of pop within.

Daniel O’Donnell Moon Over Ireland — In time for St. Patty’s Day, but kinda boring, sleepy.

Various Artists Rango Soundtrack — Mostly instrumental soundtrack features a few tracks by Los Lobos.

Screeching Weasel First World Manifesto — Chicago punk band releases its first new material since 2000.

The Dirtball Nervous System — Kottonmouth Kings’ Dirtball has elements of Eminem — with weaker lyrics.

Various Artists Dance Mix USA — Mostly unknown songs get remixed into monotonous, thumping club tunes.

Tony Castles No Service EP — Brooklyn band’s brand of freak funk has some quality pieces.
