Live review: Zac Brown Band

The Deal: The bearded man, Zac Brown and his band rocked out Verizon Wireless Amphitheater to a sold-out crowd. Emphasis on the word rock, because even though Zac Brown Band is a country group, they rock too.

The Good: There was no set dressing, no wardrobe changes, no pyrotechnic show or circus acrobats like a Lady Gaga or Britney Spears show. It was just some guys and their instruments on a stage with a big screen. It was about the music, not the show. A concert put on by true artist with a rockabilly sound.

Zac himself was even rocking a Kings of Leon shirt. His fashion and sound show a more rock-alternative theme than country.

Zac Brown also gave a shout out to Brain Balance — an organization that helps children with Autism and learning disabilities. Artists who use their voice and platform to help other people … that’s good.

The Bad: Considering their hit song is “Chicken Fried,” I feel like fried chicken should be readily available for sale at their shows. You can get turkey legs, but no chicken fried. In fact, you should get a free chicken tender with your beer.

The Verdict: Country concerts are more than just a show. They’re a cultural experience, like NASCAR. You might be a redneck if...
