Jill Scott scats and sings sultry songs tonight (8/24/11)

Jill Scott A decade has passed since her sultry debut, and Scott continues to evolve, releasing evocative music. The singer/poetess can scat, sing and meditate around classic music modes while remaining jazzy, exuding sensuality. Her Philly roots are attuned to old-school soul rather than the over-produced, over-sampled contemporary R&B that’s littered with popular but throwaway crooners. Scott is touring for her near-flawless new recording Light of the Sun. Also on the bill are Anthony Hamilton, Mint Condition, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Doug E. Fresh. $25-$155.
