Cover bands hit Alive After Five schedule

Posted By on Wed, Mar 30, 2011 at 12:02 PM

No big surprise here... the first five acts for Alive after Five have been announced and, yep, they're all cover bands. Craptastic.

The first four weeks will be held at the Wachovia Plaza and feature a quartet of "party bands" — Liquid Pleasure on April 7, 80z Enuff on April 14, Hot Sauce on April 21 and Love Tribe on April 28.

The event will head to the Epicentre on May 5 with Alternate Take, described as a "party band" that's also available for weddings. Great...

How about a schedule that reads something like - Simplified, Matrimony, Overmountain Men, The New Familiars, Eyes of the Elders and Harvard... I can give the names of 50 more local bands that should be playing instead of the usual suspects. Something instead of the same crap year after year after year. Give local bands some exposure and some money in their pocket and support originality.

Actually, I need to find out who does the booking for this. I think they'll be interested in my new TV show. It's going to be called "Einsfeld." I'm now casting the parts of Egorge, Yerrj, Lainee and Ramerk. It's basically a show about nothing... In one episode, it's all centered around waiting for a table at a Chinese restaurant. Yeah, you've heard it before, and it won't be as good as the original, but there will be different people playing the characters, so I'm sure you'll be interested.

I'm also looking for six people who can star in another comedy called "Buddies," kinda like "Friends" — a lot of it will take place in a coffee shop. The best part is that the scripts are already written - we just need to find a location and some cameras.

Treasure Fest benefit on Friday

Posted By on Wed, Mar 30, 2011 at 11:43 AM

This Friday, at The World Famous Milestone Club, they will be holding for a benefit for the upcoming multi-venue Charlotte based music festival, Treasure Fest.

Treasure Fest will be held throughout the Plaza-Midwood area May 20-21 featuring underground musical artists from all over the east coast, particularly our Southeast region. Including marvelous acts such as Philidelphia based Mose Giganticus, Atlanta's The Emotron and local gems like Andy the Doorbum, 25 Minutes to Go, Appalucia, Harvard, Blossoms and Junior Astronomers — it will certainly be an event you won't want to miss.

For a complete line up visit: Treasure Fest's website where you can also purchase tickets for $25, a steal for such a large array of talented musicians over the course of two days.

Nonetheless, come out this Friday night and get a small taste of what is to come with some of Charlotte and Long Island's most enjoyable indie and for southern sake, muddy Catawba country. Our own Harvard and Great Architect are bound to get your head swinging while Appalucia will get the indie kids hooting and hollering so Long Island's Robbers can close in the night, who judging from what I've heard are a rad act that shouldn't be missed while they are here (they sadly aren't attending Treasure Fest).

Come out, support Treasure Fest and have a great night of sweet jams and stiff drinks at the Milestone. $7-9 will be a small price to pay to a good cause in exchange for the fantastic eve and days ahead in May.

The Coheed and Cambria contest - win tickets and meet the band!

Posted By on Mon, Mar 28, 2011 at 11:09 AM

Coheed & Cambria

Ever get your words printed in Creative Loafing?

Are you a big Coheed and Cambria fan and you'd love to go their "Neverender: SSTB" concert at The Fillmore Charlotte on April 18, but you don't have tickets?

Creative Loafing is partnering up Coheed and Cambria to offer a lucky fan the chance to win tickets, a meet and greet with the band AND get your words written in the paper.

How? Instead of telling us why you like the band, we'd like you to write a preview of the show and tell CL readers why they should go. In roughly 75 words, write up a quick paragraph that gets right to the point of why people should be at this show. Don't simply say "they're awesome" or "because they're the best band ever," we're looking for more than that.

Coheed and Cambria will be playing its debut album, The Second Stage Turbine Blade, in full, as well as an acoustic set and an encore set.

The winner, chosen by the band, will have their preview item published in the music section of the April 13-20 edition of Creative Loafing, as well as online at clclt.com. Find out first by picking up a copy in the Charlotte area — and then we'll post the winner online on Friday, April 15, if you can wait that long.

Send your entries with your name, age and valid e-mail address to vielarcrom@gmail.com

Good luck!
