There's no music to be heard online yet, but if a lineup says anything about potential, this band's definitely one to keep an ear out for. International Scar Lovers will make their first on-stage appearance on Sunday, July 6, at Snug Harbor.
The group is comprised of Robert Childers (Luciferian Agenda, Overmountain Men, 2013 Wolves), Wyley Buck Boswell (Luciferian Agenda, Hectagons, Andy the Doorbum), Travis Phillips (Modern Primitives) and Phillip Gripper (Modern Primitives). Guests include Andy the Doorbum and Korey Dudley (Hectagons).
In a Facebook conversation about the show and album, Boswell said International Scar Lovers perform a mixture of original and cover songs, though "none of the covers sounds like the original, at all." The band has recorded versions of Erykah Badu's "Soldier," Desmond Dekker's "Dracula," The Slickers "Johnny Too Bad," Sean Nicholas Savage's "Darkness" and a Revolutionary War-era song titled "Katie Cruel." A debut album is planned for release later this year.
The performance is scheduled as part of Crowd Surfer Sunday, which is a free potluck hangout that includes DJs, live music and vendors. So, bring a dish and enjoy the music.
As the father of a one-and-a-half year old, I play music for my daughter on a daily basis. This morning, she clapped to Cat Stevens and sang along to The Flaming Lips' "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song." Giving kids exposure to music, and even an opportunity to perform at an early age, can only help with their self esteem and their interest in music.
Tonight at the Stage Door Theater, girls ages 10-16 will celebrate their love of music through a free, open-to-the-public performance at 7 p.m. as part of the Girls Rock! Charlotte Camp.
The camp pairs each girl with an instrument. After bands are formed, an original song is written and then performed at the finale concert. In addition to music, the camp focuses on topics such as the positive use of social media, stage confidence, managing money, media literacy and more.

Earlier today, Charlotte's NBC affiliate station, WCNC, reported that Rick Ross had cancelled gigs in Greensboro tonight and Charlotte tomorrow because of death threats from a North Carolina faction of the Gangster Disciples. News of the threats immediately went national.
The Maybach Music Group Tour stop at Bojangles Coliseum was scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday and also included Meek Mill, Wale, and Machine Gun Kelly. None of the acts will be performing. The threats against Ross came in a YouTube video in which members of the Gangster Disciples, all dressed in dry-cleaned bandanas, and couture gangwear, issued a "public service announcement" warning the rapper not to perform in North Carolina.
