There's something new brewing up online Plaza Midwood Community Radio. Found at pmcradio.org, it launched earlier this week and features streaming audio of local music and possibly some live broadcasts and other goodies...
It's in the early stages, so you might get some dead air mixed in. It's mostly just an MP3 player on shuffle and there's no telling who you're listening to sometimes, but the idea is fantastic.
Local musicians such as Bruce Hazel and Justin Faircloth are already talking about doing taped shows, live broadcasts and other possibilities. It also looks like they have some live broadcasting from Snug Harbor planned.
Those with ideas or who want to get involved should e-mail info@pmcradio.org.
Check it out.
The latest Local Leak comes from a little outside of our jurisdiction but Raleigh hip-hop crew, Kooley High, deserves love.
After releasing their album, Eastern Standard Time, earlier this year, we hadn't heard much for them but today they dropped this freestyle, "POGO," as part of the DJBooth.net freestyle series and yeah, it's dope.
Produced by Zee Imports, you can download track, legally, for free here.
Enjoy.
Rapper and Charlotte native, Deniro Farrar, had a midnight release for his first mixtape, Feel This.
The artist has only been in the game for a relatively short time but has already found stage time opening for icons like Nas and acts like Wiz Khalifa, Curren$y and others with his Black Flag brethren.
He's also made his online presence felt, kicking out eye catching videos in with Charlotte as the back drop, including his "So Appalled" freestyle (watch below) which was shot just around the corner from our offices at CL.
Months in the making, some might call the 31-tracks on Feel This overkill, I just say, bruh had a lot to say.
Anyone in the Triangle area can catch him performing with Dow Jones and Gorilla Zoe at the UNC-Chapel Hill's DKE Frat House tonight, celebrating the release.

Months in the making, rapper Dow Jones finally dropped The Lyrcis and Liquor EP, via the Black Flag Records Bandcamp page.
Available as a free download, the nine-track project is a quality taste of what Dow has in store for his full-length album and an nice sampler of what he can bring to the table as an artist.
You can stream or download the project here.
We all have that friend. You know, she's cool or whatever. You'd totally sleep with her, but she's well a slut. And everybody knows it.
Today's Local Leak comes from Charlotte rock outfit, The Flash Alchemy. "Slut" travels down pretty worn territory but is clever, while frenetically explaining the scenario. You know what she is, she knows what she wants. At least they're upfront about using her and at the end of the day, no hearts are broken but everyone gets broke off. Win-win, right?
Enjoy. (Side note: Don't wife the roller...seriously).
New music in this week's Local Leak from one of Charlotte's busiest DJ's, Buckmaster.
"The Ja Dance" is a tribal bass jam, he cooked up in just a few hours and has already added to his rotation at Dharma Lounge, where he's the resident DJ.
It's part of the Future Sounds of North America compilation, put out by Party Guy Records, which also features local bass producers, Clicks + Whistles.
The compilation hopes to shine light on bass as a genre and how it's moved out of regional pockets and away from regional sounds we're used to and transformed into this big pot of everything, that everyone is contributing to.
The native vibe of this record is ready to party right now but you can't buy the entire compilation until Dec. 13 when it's available on iTunes and a bunch of other outlets.
Another Local Leak from Charlotte's burgeoning bass scene.
This one from the duo, Clicks & Whistles (Jorge Hernandez and Peter Evans). It's low-key and soulful at the start then wakes up in a major way just before you were lulled into the subdued groove. Great stuff.

We haven't had a Local Leak for you in a while but today we've got new music from Charlotte MC, Dow Jones.
The Black Flag Records artist and Queen City opening act staple is hard at work on his upcoming EP, Lyrics and Liquor, but dropped off these appetizer tracks for fans who haven't heard anything new from him in a while.
Gotta love local music that doesn't sound local. Enjoy.
Making a left into a dimly-lit industrial area just past Tremont Music Hall late on a Friday night, you'd probably expect to stumble upon a B&E, much less a recording session.
Checking the address twice, I parked outside Charles Holloman Productions and after getting buzzed into the building, I'm instantly blown away by the inside. It's pretty lush, no way you could tell from the outside. Walking past two women doing vocal warm-ups in the hallway, one of them points me towards the studio, "Jeff's in there."
Charlotte native and indie hip-hop performer, Jeff Lucky, is back in town from L.A., where he moved a few years ago, to wrap up production on his next album, Soul Motivation, due out later this year on SummerSoul Records.
Maybe my cries for better local video production haven't been falling on deaf ears after all.
Enter Q.C. hip-hop staple, Ike Turnah, and the slightly lesser known, Panama Ski, and the new video for their track, "Armor All." This is what all Charlotte hip hop videos could be. Sure, it had it's art school moments, some classic footage went a little long and we overly artistic but as a whole this video is solid, well shot, very well edited. A dope compliment to a dope song you'll probably never hear on Power 98 but CL will always support. Look out for Panama Ski spitting on top of one of our boxes in NoDa in the video. The clips from Money Talks was also a nice touch.
