Oral sex, the gateway sex act? Who didn't know this?

Posted By on Tue, Nov 9, 2010 at 1:31 PM

A popular rapper has a song called "Becky" and he's not talking about his love for a chick named Rebecca, he's talking about getting oral sex — or head as Prince and the kids say.

Hip-hop stations played this song by Plies in heavy rotation. Kids downloaded it from iTunes in droves. Everybody wanted that "Becky." So, this study, which says oral sex often precedes intercourse for teens, is surprising to who? Uninformed parents? People who don't listen to the radio? Republicans who wanted to impeach former President Bill Clinton?

Among students who had their first experience with oral sex in ninth grade, all but 9% had had vaginal sex by the end of 11th grade, the study found. Eighty percent of teens who had not had oral sex by the end of 11th grade also had not had vaginal sex.

Most teens said they had intercourse within or after the same six-month period as their first experience with oral sex. Teens largely tended to have oral sex before vaginal sex, rather than the opposite. The study revealed no differences in sexual progression between genders or races.

The question that I'd like the answer to is, why has oral sex become accepted with the teen set? If you're over 30, you remember in high school that being known as the girl who "went down" wasn't a badge of honor. And let's be honest, having oral sex as a teenager is kind of gross — particularly if you're dealing with teen boys. They aren't known as being the cleanest.

Also, we never hear about boys performing oral sex on girls they date.

Sex education programs often ignore the role of oral sex in teens' sexual behavior, instead focusing on abstaining from intercourse and safer sex practices, according to Halpern-Felsher. The study's "findings highlight the need for health care providers, health educators and parents to include discussions of oral sex within a comprehensive sexual education curriculum," she said, adding, "Teens often do not consider oral sex to be sex, and thus might discount these messages as not applying or relevant to their own behaviors."

It's time for sex education programs in schools to take their morals out of the curriculum and teach teens the dangers, pleasures and responsibilities of all types of sex. They're already doing it; we need to make sure they're being safe.

Sex party leads to lawsuit

Posted By on Tue, Nov 2, 2010 at 3:37 PM

Giant_Ring_Toss

We all hate office parties. I know I have a co-worker who would rather dig her teeth out of her mouth with a rusted butter knife than attend the yearly Christmas bash at one of my jobs. But what recently happened at a hotel in Oregon was just plain gross.

A hotel employee in Eugene, Ore., is suing her boss after she had a company get together and employees were encouraged to play ring toss on her husband's penis. But wait there's more.

The husband danced nude and masturbated publicly, and guests guessed the size and circumference of his penis, and his wife handed out sex toys as prizes for correct guesses.

Jessica Webber sued the Markum Inn in Federal Court, alleging civil rights violations, sexual harassment, hostile workplace and constructive termination.

She says she worked for 3 years at the hotel owned by Ward and Julie Frederick until their outlandish behavior forced her to quit.

Webber says that in December 2008 Julie Frederick showed her a letter from her husband, "promising to fulfill any sexual fantasy."

Mrs. Frederick often "talked about her sexual fantasies and asked plaintiff and other employees for advice or suggestions," according to the complaint.

On April 18, 2009, she says, the Fredericks threw a private party at the hotel on a day when Webber was scheduled to work until 11 p.m. She claims Mrs. Frederick told employees she had hired a male stripper to perform, as a "practice run" for a bachelorette party.

The Fredericks invited female employees, customers and friends to the party, according to the complaint.

Webber says that during her shift, "Mrs. Frederick handed out a questionnaire to plaintiff and others with questions relating to the genitalia of the male stripper and Mr. Frederick, including questions regarding the size and circumference of Mr. Frederick's penis. Mrs. Frederick also showed plaintiff a bag of adult sex toys that she intended to hand out as gifts at the party for correctly answered questions."

This party isn't even appropriate for your closest girlfriends. I've been to some wild Pleasure parties, bachelorette parties and drunken house parties and not one involved a ring toss on someone's penis. At times, I rail about how sexually repressed we are as a society, but this is beyond bad taste. You can't force sex on someone in the workplace. There's nothing fun or funny about subjecting your employees, or your husband for that matter, to such a degrading event. I hope this woman wins her lawsuit.

Debating homosexuality ... It happens tonight

Posted By on Mon, Nov 1, 2010 at 2:22 PM

There's been a lot of discussion about sexuality around Charlotte these days. There's the Let Love Reign exhibit, which puts a local face on the same-sex marriage debate; it's on display on a billboard and the Gil Gallery in Uptown.

I was quite surprised, however, that Matthews, a quaint and conservative area of Mecklenburg County, would be home to this event:

Is Homosexuality America’s Greatest Moral Crisis?

Debate Tonight: Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and Dr. Michael Brown Debate the Issue of Homosexuality in our Country, in Light of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and Current Cultural Events

Charlotte, N.C.—The capriciousness regarding a potential ban on the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy has incited controversy among the Obama Administration, District Judges and U.S. Citizens. The policy, which has been active for 17 years, prohibits homosexuals in the military from discussing or acting on their sexual orientation, as well as forbids military officers from investigating or questioning the orientation of any soldier. This limitation and Mr. Obama’s failed promise to overturn it, in addition to the ever-present issue of homosexual marriage, has created uproar among civil rights activists and gays throughout the country.

In response to the culturally crucial and extremely controversial issue of homosexual rights in America, Southern Evangelical Seminary will be hosting a debate between international best-selling author and speaker Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and Dr. Michael Brown, host of the nationally syndicated Line of Fire radio broadcast, on the issue of homosexuality in our country, as it relates to current cultural issues such as “don’t ask, don’t tell” and the perpetual issue of homosexual marriage. The experts will examine the question—is homosexuality America’s greatest moral crisis?

WHAT: Debate: Rabbi Shmuley Boteach vs. Dr. Michael Brown—“Is Homosexuality America’s Greatest Moral Crisis?”

WHERE: Southern Evangelical Seminary

3000 Tilley Morris Road

Matthews, NC 28105

WHEN: Monday, November 1, 7:00 pm ET

WHO: Southern Evangelical Seminary
