What are you doing this weekend? How about this...

Posted By on Tue, Mar 24, 2009 at 7:47 AM

Fashion Friday at KISS Lounge, which is introducing both the new Christian Audigier line and the AMPED 4-a-cure concert series - a philanthropy supporting cancer research through music. Friday Small Doses with special guest Tommy DeCarlo of the legendary Boston will be fighting cancer, as in performing.

I'm actually hosting the event ... the last time I hosted a fashion show I got yelled at for pronouncing BeBe as “bay-bay” as opposed to the correct pronunciation: “bee-bee.” With that said, can someone please tell me how to properly pronounce Audigier before handing me a microphone?

Doors open at 9 p.m.

Going buck wild at Buck Wild

Posted By on Mon, Mar 23, 2009 at 7:09 AM

I was lured up to Buck Wild Ultra Saloon in University by a facebook invite to “Man Show Mondays” that advertised trampoline jumping. Growing up, I would entertain myself for hours with the trampoline I had in my back yard. When I came home from college one summer my mom had gotten rid of it and confessing it was a pain in the ass when she mowed the lawn so she just gave it to the kids up the street that use to always come knock on our door and ask to jump on it.

There I was, 19 years old, knocking on my neighbor’s door, asking a 10-year-old if I can jump on her trampoline. So, I went to Buck Wild in hopes of jumping on a trampoline – I even wore yoga pants so I could do flips. Turns out, the Man Show actually entailed the bartenders jumping on mini-trampolines.

It was a little scary walking in – it’s reminiscent of a haunted castle, the door even looked like a draw bridge. But it was like an a-booze-ment park inside with Cornhole, Beer Pong tables on old whisky barrels, ping-pong ... and a stripper pole.

Get in the game, make a Play Date

Posted By on Fri, Mar 20, 2009 at 12:27 PM

I threw my intern Sarah into the game to find some relief from nightlife boredom... and she brought back a board game. 2 points for the intern. — Brittney

Although we’ve had gaming systems since back when Atari was considered cool, the 21st Century ushered in the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii. I actually read an article that talked about when the right time is to delete your ex’s Wii character?

That pretty much sums up the extent to which technology has come to rule our world. My man and I love to sit back and play a game of "Call of Duty," but it always seems to go better for him than for me. “Play Date” may have another solution for nightlife boredom, grab a board game.

twister1-300x239.webp

For us un-technologically advanced, “Play Date” offers classics like Monopoly, Hungry Hungry Hippos, Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots and Connect 4 — basically the games we grew up with that will let us make our comebacks. Alongside great games, there’s game foods and alcohol. Then while the floor may already be moving from the drinks, “Play Date” adds another twist — Twister, Musical Chairs and Hula Hoops.

A “Dy-No-Mite” night at The Hooker … as in Lake Norman Comedy Zone

Posted By on Wed, Mar 18, 2009 at 8:02 AM

Good times were had with Good Time’s star JJ Walker.

The first thing he said when he took the stage was “Lake Norman – Cornelius, North Carolina... so it’s come to this?” Meaning, his career. But he was surrounded by celebs actually ... assuming he’s heard of NASCAR.

jj-walker-and-buck-wild-007.webp

JJ is still so animated and outspoken he didn’t even need a mic, he just carried it around at arms length, only using it when he was acting out a punch line — or really trying to make a point. I was laughing so hard I got cramps ... some of the side splitting laughter induced jokes included his comments regarding Young Hollywood.

“Britney Spears lost custody of her kids ... even Michael Jackson was allowed to keep his kids.” He made some very valid points...

Breaking nightlife news: enso opening, Wachovia Phillip's Place Block Party relocated, HOM to reopen and ...

Posted By on Tue, Mar 17, 2009 at 6:26 AM

• Word on the street is enso Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar is opening in the EpiCentre in April, and is suppose to give Nikko a run for its money ... which is going to be hard considering it’s hard to top a boa-wearing, tambourine-shaking, karaoke-singing owner. SUSHI LOVE!

• The Wachovia Championship Block Party in Phillip’s Place has been canceled ... well, relocated rather  to Piedmont in South Park.

• HOM was foreclosed on, but it’s now under renovations and is set to reopen in two months as an upscale urban club – kinda like Grand Central did.

mythos-190x300.webp

• On Friday, March 27, Mythos is having a reunion party... at Forum, where it once existed. DJ Kastanas will be playing the old school beats to the old school crowd. I'm sure for the old Mythos regulars, getting word about the reunion made them feel as old as I did when I got the invite (over facebook nonetheless) to my 10 year high school reunion in October.

• The Dirty Martini is opening in Lake Norman, Cornelius if you will: 17036 Kenton Drive Suite 104, Cornelius, N.C. 28031 to be exact.

Kiss me, I’m one-fourth Irish

Posted By on Mon, Mar 16, 2009 at 7:31 AM

... and I-rish I hadn’t drunk so much while celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this past weekend. Although comparatively, I was practically sober.

It may have rained on our parade – literally, the parade was postponed until this weekend – but Rich and Bennett’s 8th Annual St. Patrick's Day Pub Crawl marched on. Said pub crawl is the largest in the U.S. – like, officially. More than 4,000 people come in from all over the country, as far as San Francisco, to crawl through the streets of Charlotte. The crawl is so massive in fact, the Travel Channel filmed it for their new show "Extreme." This pub crawl has made Charlotte a tourist destination. All hail Rich&Bennett.

But I’m pretty sure the producers thought they were filming “Charlotteans Gone Wild” in some of the interviews. I overheard one interview where the guy was talking in a foreign language known as drunk babble, and some girl in dire need of attention wanted to be on camera so bad she pulled up her shirt and shouted, “They always be after me Lucky Charms!” Not very lady like of the lush.

buckhead-300x187.webp

Pictured was the view from DJ Mayor’s booth of Buckhead Saloon at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon... it was so crowded it was one in, one out — and the line for the ladies room was so long the attendants offered a pass to the front of the line for $3. Considering how long all the broken seals in there were holding their pee, it was a bargain.

Get Down with ACC, yeah you know me! VT vs. UNC

Posted By on Fri, Mar 13, 2009 at 6:04 AM

What is up with a noon game on a weekday? I’m sure all the VT and UNC fans throughout Charlotte are going to be real productive at work tomorrow. Two words for you: long lunch. Or fuck it, it’s Friday and game day, just take half a day. It’s like an unsaid Tarheel holiday, after all.

accmenbasketbe280a65fkzcqcxgpl.webp

I know so much about college basketball that when I met Sean May the year after he helped UNC win the National Championship, I asked him which school he went to. But I do know that VT and UNC both have to win three games in order to win the ACC tournament.

I had tickets to VT vs. Miami game in Atlanta on Thursday, but instead I went up to the lake to watch the game during the live broadcast of WFNZ’s Frank & Buck at the LKN Sports Grille.

Places to go to “lunch” to watch the game...

Chillin at Chima

Posted By on Thu, Mar 12, 2009 at 1:07 PM

Chima (pronounced Chi-ma, not Chime-a as I stood, or spoke rather, corrected).

buttices-bday-0121.webp

I’ve been to Chima twice – and it wasn’t to eat the delicacy that is Brazilian meat shaved right off the bone... It was to party. As it turns out, Chima isn’t just a place to fine dine, it’s a fine place to wine. Last night I went for the ELEVATE Magazine’s Best Of party.

They had a signature shot called the “Shaved Beaver” – considering it’s a Brazilian restaurant shouldn’t it be referred to as the “Brazilian Waxed Beaver?”

New club opening in Uptown

Posted By on Wed, Mar 11, 2009 at 1:33 PM

Breaking news in the world of nightlife — there's a new club opening up.

The ugly coyotes were run out of town by the LUNA ... tics. (Don’t think too much into that, it’s merely a play on words)

luna-200x300.webp

The opening date has not yet been confirmed, but LUNA Lounge is opening sometime in the near future in the old Coyote Ugly building in Uptown.

Word on the street is it will have a glassed in patio and a cabana style rooftop patio. The color scheme and decor is similar to that of the Sunset Club before they remodeled, with the russet oranges, dark reds and rich browns. Which pretty much makes it a Virginia Tech bar by school color default, no?

They’ll have sectional VIP seating similar to that in KISS Lounge and will be serving a Tapas style menu. Thursday nights will be college night (mash ups, top 40, mainstream), Fridays will be designated for Tec House (Electronica and house music) and Saturdays will be Loca Luna International Nights.

Stay tuned for the opening date and chances to win tickets to the grand opening party!
