99 bottles of beer on the wall? How about 83 different kinds of beer on tap! And you don't even have to go to a different planet, you just have to board the Flying Saucer.
The walls of the Flying Saucer are painted with hundreds of plates that reflect the glow of the dimmed lights. Girls in plaid mini skirts and knee-high stockings hasten through the obstacle of bar stools, booths and tables, while in the back room the sounds of billiards pierce the ear. It sounds like such a guys place and it is but women love it just as much.
There are 13 of these establishments scattered across the U.S. and one of them can be found off of Tryon, across from UNCC. Surprisingly, more than just college students fly to The Saucer. Perhaps its the 83 taps they feature or the over 300 domestic and imported beers in their beer cooler, I dont know what I do know is that it is an extremely popular watering hole in Charlotte.
Wednesday is their glass night, which means that if you buy the feature beer, you get to keep the glass for 50 cents more. For the non-beer drinkers like me, two of their 83 beers on tap are ciders Ace Pear and Woodchuck Amber; they also have three more in bottles.
The Saucer has a loyal clientele base. So loyal in fact, they have a U.F.O Club.
This Saturday, June 6, is their 7th anniversary party and the party favors include $3 NC Pints, a raffle for free shit, and 7 Limited Tappings of Avery Samaels, Allagash Fluxus, Terrapin Rye Squared, Dogfish Immort, Bells Hell Hath No Fury, Great Divide Represso Oaked Yeti, Stone Oaked Bastard, and a Cask of Heavy Seas Loose Cannon IPA.
Beam up the beer, Scotty!
For those that live in Uptown, coming up to University may seem like traveling to another planet but the Flying Saucer is worth the trip to outerspace. And while there might not be any aliens at The Flying Saucer, there are servers in school girl outfits!
