CD REVIEW: Street Sweeper Social Club's Ghetto Blaster EP

THE DEAL: Collaboration between Tom Morello and Boots Riley puts together seven-song EP as follow-up to debut full-length.

THE GOOD: If you heard the self-titled debut, you have a good idea of what to expect — Rage Against the Machine-like guitar riffs with Boots spitting over the top of them. Nothing as politically-charged as Rage here, though they're not afraid to hint at it — "Revolution is the new fuck you" is the chorus of "The New Fuck You," a song with Riley giving up something more stylistically funky in his vocals. The album kicks off with the title track and doesn't hold back through the final notes of the remixed "Promenade." Two covers are included — a harder edge take on M.I.A.'s "Paper Planes" and a rocked-out version of LL Cool J's "Mama Said Knock You Out."

THE BAD: While it's a great outlet for Morello and new music is always appreciated, a lot of fans just want Rage to get back together for a new album and tour.

THE VERDICT: All things Rage aside, the duo offers up some hard-hitting rock tunes that, despite what you might expect, are far from anything rap-rock. Seven songs are better than nothing.
