Local composer to hold master class, performance

Composer and pianist Claire Ritter, a Charlotte native, will be holding a master class and performance at her Weddington performance studio on Dec. 2. She will perform works by Thelonious Monk in addition to original compositions. The master class will include discussion and illustrations using her ninth CD, the recently released Waltzing the Splendor. Ritter's students will also be performing.

Ritter's music combines jazz, classical and ethnic styles in a blend of American music. She is an alumna of Queens University and New England Conservatory of Music.

The class and performance are open to the public and free, but seating is limited and must be reserved. Call (704) 321-0708 or e-mail for a reservation or more information.
