It's that time of year again.
The kids go back to school and people do some crazy shopping on tax-free weekend.
Which also means ... It's time for Chipotle Mexican Grill's "Free Food with Integrity" yearly promotion. It's like a delayed buy-one, get-one free deal.
Just eat at any Charlotte Chipotle restaurant on Tuesday, Aug. 2 or Wednesday, Aug. 3, and save your receipt.
Bring the receipt back anytime during tax-free weekend Aug. 5 - 7, and get a free entree (burrito, bowl, tacos, or salad). FREE. That's right. No tax or strings attached.
While Flag Day and Labor Day celebrate American culture and have a permanent place on our calendars, there's a handful of random but delicious little holidays.
July 27th is National Crème Brûlée Day a recognition of the very rich and very French dessert. Sometimes it's best just to go with it. Here's a recipe to blissfully enjoy what should be one of America's most widely anticipated holidays.
Win a free Chick-fil-A Breakfast ... of their new oatmeal and coffee. (Yay for heath-foodies. Boo for people who were hoping I was giving away chicken minis.)
Chick-fil-A launched their new breakfast oatmeal item yesterday Monday, July 25. Full of whole-grains and other goodies, it seems like it has the potential to be a delicious healthy option for breakfast. (I haven't tried it yet.)
Try it for yourself by winning a pair of coupons: one free oatmeal and a free coffee. I have a pile to give away! Just email me at priscilla dot tsai @ creativeloafing.com and tell me:
1. What your favorite healthy breakfast is.
2. Your mailing address so I can send you your coupons.
Make the subject line of your email "CFA breakfast."
First-come, first served. Good luck!
Queen's Feast: Charlotte Restaurant Week is now in full swing. If you haven't hit up any of the participating restaurants yet, it's time to get on it. The 3-courses-for-$30 special officially ends this Sunday, July 24. (A few restaurants will be extending the offer by a few weeks though.)
One of the restaurants extending their Restaurant Week offering is Fiamma. With delicious Italian fare, and even some mango sorbet thrown in the middle, it's a great choice as they have plenty to choose from on their restaurant week menu. Another good one to try is Aria. Also Italian, the restaurant offers up their entire regular menu for Restaurant Week.
Here are a few photos from Fimama during Restaurant Week:
It's pretty hard to resist ordering Chick-fil-A's chicken minis for breakfast, but if you are able, try their new healthy Multigrain Oatmeal, which will be available in restaurants starting Monday, July 25.
No pasty, goopy oatmeal here CFA's oatmeal is made of a mixture of steel-cut oats, rolled oats, flax, buckwheat flour and whole wheat flour. You can choose one of three toppings, including cinnamon brown sugar, roasted mixed nuts (almonds, pecans and walnuts) or a dried fruit blend (cranberries, blueberries, golden raisins and cherries).
Each serving of oatmeal contains 120 calories and 2.5 grams of fat without toppings and up to 290 calories and 11 grams of fat with the addition of toppings, all with no trans fat.
People flock for free food, especially when it's burritos the size of oil tankers. With the grand opening last night of Moe's Southwest Grill at the EpiCentre, visitors bumped elbows as they stood in line for the first (and free) burritos.
Seasoned fans of Homewrecker's, queso, and El Guapo's Infamous Salsa now have a location Uptown to fill their fix. The new franchise location, on the second floor of the complex, features some new and more modern updates compared to the other locations around town.
