Pick your Fashion favorite

Posted By on Wed, Jul 15, 2009 at 2:33 PM

This Thursday night, viewers can vote for their favorite designer in the finale of The Fashion Show on Bravo.  As the competition has narrowed from 15 contestants down to the final four, who will prove to be the viewers’ favorite?

How will you decide? Here is a crash course in the four remaining designers:

James-Paul Ancheta, age 28

Designer of geometric-inspired pieces, James-Paul’s intelligent approach to design helped him earn his spot in the final four. Though his performance in the competition has fluctuated, his pattern-making and sewing skills have been strong throughout the show.

Reco Chapple, age 31

Glamour has met its match with Reco’s designs, taking chic sex appeal to a new level.  The quickest sewer of the group, Reco’s confidence has taken him far, but his technique has given him staying power.

Daniella Kallmeyer, age 22

A fierce competitor and skilled artist, Daniella’s youth has not proven to be any sort of disadvantage.  If anything, she’s a step ahead of her competitors, winning more challenges than any of her opponents and still managing to show a strong point of view.

Anna McCraney, age 30

As the only competitor who has never had a low scoring garment, Anna’s strong attention to detail has kept her ahead of the competition.  A former industry designer and teacher, her experience has proven to be an advantage against her competitors.

Who will win your vote?  Tune in Thursday at 10 p.m. on Bravo and cast your vote for your favorite designer.

WWD.com is reporting that Beyoncé and Tina Knowles are planning to capitalize on the singer's alter ego and launch a junior apparel label in her name: Sasha Fierce for Deréon. The clothing line will be ready just in time for the back-to-school shopping season.

The collection, which is inspired by Beyoncé’s stage presence (she is on a world tour through November), includes a full range of sportswear, outerwear, handbags, footwear, eyewear, lingerie and jewelry. Positioned to sit alongside the company’s Deréon junior label, which is similarly priced, the line has so far been picked up by department stores including Macy’s and Dillard’s and specialty stores Jimmy Jazz and Against All Odds.

Michael Jackson's 'Suit of Lights' glove for sale

Posted By on Wed, Jul 1, 2009 at 10:07 AM

In October, one lucky Michael Jackson will win a bid for one of only two electric white gloves worn by the pop star on the Jacksons' 1984 Victory Tour during a sale by the Profiles in History auction house. And he or she will likely pay up to six figures to have it.

Over the years, he wore many gloves when he performed, of course, but the glove being sold by Profiles in History is one of only two made for Jackson's "Suit of Lights" on stage.

Shell not only designed the glove, but he went on the Victory Tour to protect and maintain the glove. After the tour ended, Jackson gave him one glove and kept the other, according to Maddalena.

The glove is emblazoned with bugle beads, Austrian crystal rhinestones and fitted with 50 small lights powered by a small battery placed in the cuff of the glove.

Bikini turns 60

Posted By on Tue, Jun 30, 2009 at 10:19 AM

When the bikini first made its debut at a poolside fashion show in Paris 60 years ago, the designer had to enlist a stripper to wear it because the models refused.

My, how times have changed.

Check out this photo gallery from Slate documenting the early days of the two-piece, once scandalous, swim suit.

Carolina Warehouse Sale ends today

Posted By on Mon, Jun 29, 2009 at 11:38 AM

The Carolina Warehouse Sale was a success this weekend. According to the various people I follow on my Twitter who were able to hit up the sale, everyone showed up to take advantage of the sales event— there was a line just to get in the door.

The CWS twitter feed says this morning that over 75 percent of inventory went this weekend, meaning the sale will end today instead of Saturday. Everything is 85 percent off original retail and the event runs till 8 p.m. tonight. Get out there!
