While balletomanes of all ages are tingling at the prospect of seeing NC Dance Theatre, Alvin Ailey Dance, and the Parsons Dance Company at the new Knight Theater in successive months, young folk in leotards, tutus, and jazz shoes have a special reason to be excited. The famed Joffrey Ballet School, based in New York for over 50 years, will be camping out at NC Dances HQ up in NoDa, on January 23.
Theyll be holding Summer School auditions at 628 East 28th St., Ste. 113, for ballet, jazz, and contemporary classes. Ballet auditions are scheduled at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for ages 10-12, and from 12:30 p.m.-2 p.m. for ages 13-21. Jazz & Contemporary auditioners, aged 12-21, take over the floor immediately afterwards, 2 p.m.-3 p.m. Online pre-paid audition fee is $30, in-person audition fee is $35, and candidates can submit a video in lieu of a personal appearance for a $40 fee.
More details are available at the Joffrey Ballet School Web site. Candidates who dont already have a 5x7 dance photo showing off a pose, preferably a jump, with a clear view of their face need to pick up their tempo (and show up in proper attire like everyone else). Alyssa Maksym is the designated Joffrey contact at amaksym@joffreyballetschool.com.
