Skateboarder thwarts Koran burning

After reviewing reports from all the various 9/11 events around the country, we want to highlight a couple you may or may not have seen. Our favorite story is about a rally that took place Saturday in Amarillo, Texas. There, David Grisham, a preacher who leads a holy roller group called Repent Amarillo (purpose: “to deter promiscuity, homosexuality and non-Christian worship practices through confrontation and prayer”) was going to burn a copy of the Koran. The preacher’s plans were nixed, however, when Jacob Isam, a 23-year-old skateboarder, grabbed the Islamic holy text from Grisham, and gave it to a leader from the Islamic Center of Amarillo. Awesome, dude.

Yesterday in Washington, D.C., Tea Partiers gathered for their second annual 9/12 rally. So, you know how the Tea Party folks are determined to prove that their followers aren’t stooges, ignoramuses and/or racists? That didn’t exactly work out. Glenn Beck may have gotten them to leave their signs at home for his big recent rally, but they were back in force Sunday, filled with messages that make you wonder if and where these people got an education. Take a look here.
