How about an Occupy Charlotte theme song?

Here’s wishing good luck and success to participants in the Occupy Charlotte events tomorrow, starting at 3 p.m. at Old City Hall on 4th St. If the Occupy Wall St./D.C./Charlotte/etc. movement needs a theme song, we have a suggestion: “No Banker Left Behind,” from Ry Cooder's recent album Pull Up Some Dust and Sit Down.

Cooder, a legendary guitarist, music historian, and organizer of the Buena Vista Social Club recordings of Cuban musical giants, is also a longtime progressive populist. In “No Banker,” he sings a tale of bankers who “robbed the nation blind,” getting on a train with all their money and leaving the rest of the country holding the bag.

Here’s the video, with lyrics below.

No Banker Left Behind

by Ry Cooder

My telephone rang one evening, my buddy called for me
Said the bankers are all leavin', you better come round and see
A startling revelation, they robbed the nation blind,
They're all down at the station, no banker left behind.

No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
They were all down at the station, no banker left behind.

Well the bankers called a meetin', to the White House they went one day
They was going to call one the President, in a quiet and a sociable way.
The afternoon was sunny, and the weather it was fine.
They counted all our money, and no banker was left behind

No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
They were all down at the white house, no banker was left behind.

Well I hear the whistle blowin’, it plays a happy tune,
The conductor is calling "all abord", we'll be leavin’ soon,
With champagne and shrimp cocktails, and that's not all you'll find,
There's a billion dollar bonus and no banker left behind.

No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
When the train pulled out next mornin', no banker was left behind
No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
When the train pulled out next mornin', no banker was left behind

No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
They were all down at the station, no banker left behind
No banker, no banker, no banker could I find.
When the train pulled out next mornin', no banker was left behind.
