Citigroup shareholders did something pretty unusual at their meeting in Dallas on Tuesday: They rejected the bank's executive-compensation proposal.
Fourty-five percent approved the proposal, but since the law counts absentee votes as rejections, 55 percent disapproved of Citi bankers' pay, according to American Banker. The board can ignore the vote or chose to alter the packages.
"The board of directors takes this matter seriously," [said former Chairman Richard Parsons] and the directors will consult with shareholder groups to determine their concerns. It is unusual for large number of shareholders to vote against a proposal brought forward by the board, and a significant number of large institutional investors such as mutual and pension funds must have decided to disapprove.
Even some institutional shareholders didn't see the vote coming. "I was surprised to see this," said Terry Maltese, the president of Sandler O'Neill Asset Management LLC. Frank J. Barkocy, director of research at Mendon Capital Advisors Corp. said the vote was "interesting, particularly since the company [has made] good progress."

Yahoo Travel released its top 10 cities for hipsters today. Most are no-brainers (Seattle, Portland - both Portlands), and some exclusions made me really happy. Williamsburg is so 2002.
No. 8 totally caught me off guard. San Juan, anyone?
The balmy island city may not be the first to conjure images of skinny-jeaned hipsters, but it does have the hottest dining scene in the Caribbean, and its locals rank in the top 10 for being tech savvy. Perhaps ironically, the trendiest scene is found in Old Town (particularly in the area south of Calle Fortaleza, known as SoFo), where you can taste how the city ranked so well for ethnic cuisine, cafés, and street food. The city also scores highly for one key element of hip living: cool flea markets.
Take the money you have reserved in your budget for Moleskines and The National albums, and put it toward the $400 ticket it'll take to get from Charlotte to San Juan. Sounds like a good investment.
Soon-to-be graduates - Erin Abarbanell, Matt Andrews, Corrie Bates, Chris Coleman, Beth Anna Graham, Tori McLean, Jennifer Moran, Jacob Reeves, Jillian Sanford, Jade South, Laurel Welch, and Leigh Yost - of Winthrop University's graphic design and illustration program are showcasing their latest works in the Deer Professionals Senior Show at Johnson & Wales on Friday, April 20.
Los Angeles-based illustrator Kevin Tong is scheduled to speak at the event. Tong's lengthy list of works include special assignments for clients like LA Weekly, Hard Rock Cafe, Playboy Magazine, Chuck Palahniuk and more. He's also done some pretty darn impressive prints for bands (The Black Keys, Beck, Wilco, The Shins, to name a few), films and TV shows (Star Wars, and Lost, among others). How's that for a kick ass portfolio?

Jay Parmley stepped down Sunday after a secret agreement to pay a former staffer to keep quiet about sexual harassment surfaced on Friday. But the head of the state's Democratic Party insists the claims are invalid.
According to Raleigh's News & Observer, the paper that broke the allegations after it obtained internal party emails Friday:
Jay Parmley, who served less than a year at the helm of the party, denied harassing any employee and blamed right-wing political enemies for "spreading a false and misleading story."
"Even though I have not done anything wrong, it is clear to me that I need to move on," Parmley wrote in his resignation letter. "I refuse to be a distraction."
Rumors of harassment issues have circulated for months, according to the News & Observer.
