It's not uncommon for good stand-up comedians to dabble in the world of directing, writing and producing. After all, they know how to make things funny and humor is a necessity - at least, that is, in comedies. Neal Brennan fits this description. He's responsible for co-creating Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show and co-writing stoner flick Half Baked. $15-$20. May 2-3, 8 p.m.; May 4, 8 p.m. & 10:15 p.m.; May 5, 7 p.m. & 9:30 p.m. The Comedy Zone Charlotte, 900 Seaboard St., Suite B3, Charlotte. 980-321-4702. www.cltcomedyzone.com.

Improv Charlotte shows can be pretty random - meaning, they joke about whatever it is they feel like. Since you can't know what to expect, it makes for a surprising and funny form of entertainment. Plus, it's all for a good cause. Proceeds raised from each show go straight to charity. $5. May 4, 7 p.m. Wine Up, 3306 N. Davidson St.

Comedian Doug Benson loves weed. At least, that's what we've come to gather from his documentary Super High Me. In the film, Benson explores the effects of smoking the substance for 30 days. The outcome? He gets happily high over and over and over again. $17-$20. May 5, 4:20 p.m. The Comedy Zone Charlotte, 900 Seaboard St., Suite B3, Charlotte. 980-321-4702. www.cltcomedyzone.com.
