The Tints That Glow unlocks femininity

Posted By on Fri, Jan 4, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Women are a constant source of inspiration for artist Caroline Rust, so it's no surprise that her current showcase at Center for the Arts is gender-specific. The Tints That Glow is an exploration of femininity and the ways women use certain objects to find identity and meaning in life.

In coming up with the idea for the exhibit, Rust used Lord Byron's poem "She Walks in Beauty" as a muse. She also studied everyday objects - locks, lipstick, perfume bottles and chocolates - and the positive and/or negative ways women use them. The result is a series of installations comprised of paintings and other items. It's up to you to unlock the meaning. Free admission. Exhibit opens on Jan. 4 and continues through Feb. 17. Center for the Arts, 121 E. Main St., Rock Hill. 803-328-2787. www.yorkcountyarts.org.
