GRACE POTTER & THE NOCTURNALS Grace Potter may have undergone a makeover years ago - going from a reserved T-shirt and jeans keyboardist to a blonde bombshell frontwoman who commands the spotlight - but don't let that be a distraction from the music. Regardless of the packaging, Potter is still that same chanteuse with strong pipes and songwriting that wins over whatever audience she's in front of. She's not afraid to belt out an a capella "Stars" or "Down by the Water," or dance her ass off and hammer away on a bass drum while her band extends a jam on "Medicine" until the entire room, band and audience alike, is left worn out. Last year, the band lit up the night at the Uptown Amphitheatre, but seeing her in a smaller indoor venue always enhances the collective energy. $25. Oct. 3, 8 p.m. The Fillmore, 1000 N.C. Music Factory Blvd. 704-916-8970.
