Shelby police have released the dash cam video of and 911 calls leading up to the arrest of confessed Charleston-shooting killer Dylann Roof near Plato Lee Road in Shelby, 46 miles east of Charlotte. The 911 calls depict a man calling with second-hand information based on a friend saying she had seen a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description with a driver matching the suspect description. The video shows Roof being patted down and led to the vehicle without a struggle.
Food Lion's parent company, Delhaize Group, has agreed to a $29 billion merger with Dutch grocery company Royal Ahold NV. The merger will give the newly combined company nearly 500 stores in North Carolina. Royal Ahold was reportedly an early suitor to acquire Harris Teeter before that company was bought by The Kroger Co. in 2014.
A national backlash against the Confederate flag and any items depicting it following the shooting of nine black church members in Charleston last week has led N.C. Governor Pat McCrory to request lawmakers do something to stop the sale of Confederate flag specialty license plates. The Supreme Court ruled last week that Texas has the right to reject such specialty plates. The court ruled the license plates are government speech, and therefore can be controlled by each state however that state decides.
The town of Davidson has experienced just its second homicide in over a decade last night, according to police. Police said the fatal shooting, which happened just before 9 p.m. last night, was not a random act of violence. Davidson's last murder happened last July, and before that the town hadn't experienced a homicide in 10 years.
A missing teenage girl from Tennessee has been spotted in Marion, North Carolina with a registered sex offender, according to authorities. Hayleigh Wilson, 14, left her home in Tennessee at 10 p.m. Monday and was spotted on Walmart surveillance cameras early Tuesday camera with Benjamin Shook, a 41-year-old sex offender. Wilson was wearing a flowery top and Shook was wearing a blue shirt with "Ford" written across it. The two are suspected to be riding in a maroon 2004 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with a Tennessee plate.
