Next week is Charlotte Fashion Week, but theres fashion every week in Charlotte, thanks to Carolina Fashion TVs Fashion Wednesdays at Nikko.
Sure, Charlotte isnt N.Y.C., L.A., or even Miami or Chicago but were just as trendy, fashion forward, cultural and the G.R.I.T.S (girls raised in the south) are just as hot! Fashion Wednesdays are further evidence of that.
Vida, the Tyra Banks of Charlotte has gone from model to model maker she is the one behind Carolina Fashion TV.
I arrive to a completely packed Nikko (even the valet was full) and she just handed me the microphone and told me to use it.
I could barely walk, let alone do my little turn on the catwalk, so the first thing I did was introduce the Lotus fashion show and my own fashion I was wearing Lotus of course paired with an Ace bandage, which might be the hottest new fall trend.
You see, the previous night after the Best of Charlotte party, I got into a fight with the EpiCentre escalator, and the escalator won. Moral of the story is avoid getting on escalators in skinny heels and after a few cocktails. I even had to get a Tetanus shot, adding insult to injury.
But, microphone in hand, I thanked the sponsors: Mercedes Benz, BeBe, Lotus, Modern Salon and Spa and Kiss 95.1 and then proceeded to orchestrate a full fledged walk-off in the middle of Nikko between two fashionably fabulous ladies. And unlike Zoolander, they both could turn left, which earned them tickets to Charlotte Fashion Week kicks off this weekend.
Mic still in hand, I had a spelling bee well, a Sip & Spell where I asked people to spell some of the hard to spell (and pronounce) fashion names. The guy who spelled Versace correctly won a Nipple Shot and Butt Cheek trays of Heineken we reward our fashion savvy men. Although he admits that he just buys it and recognizes the spelling from the receipt.
Meanwhile, these older professional gentlemen went to Nikko strictly for dinner and ended up with front row seats to a fashion show. With that said, their dinner ran a bit late and after the show they may have trumped the live performance by NC Hip Hop artist Trump with their jam session with chopsticks.
Speaking of the fashion show, it included both and lusty ladies from BeBe and Lotus, and lets not forget Joanna with her Sushi Love!
Lotus has recently launched a new line, Private and has been rebuilt since Hurricane Funderburk blew threw. And although the Plaza Midwood location is being converted into Soul Gastrolounge, their locations on East Blvd. and in Phillips Place are still open.
Meanwhile, I got yelled at for my pronunciation of BeBe. I was saying it as Bay-Bay as opposed to the correct pronunciation: Bee-Bee. Apparently its not like pecan (pee-can or pee-con) or caramel (care-a-mel or car-a-mel) Its Be-Be.
To be or not to be, not to bay or not to bay, says the BeBe stylist.
I have an idea! Next Wednesday go to Polished for their Martini and Manicure night then venture down South Blvd. for Fashion Wednesdays at Nikko as Carolina Fashion TV will be there every week.
