This Friday, as in April 24, Strike City in the Epicentre is bringing in some special guests Fall Out Boy. The group will be there to bowl, meet and greet fans and play Guitar Hero. Anyone who has played the game knows how sensitive the controls are... wonder how the bands do at their own songs! RockN Bowl starts at 3:30 p.m. and might I suggest getting there early. Who knows, maybe 50 Cent and Ashlee Simpson will be there too ... more random things have happened.
On April 25, at the Alley Cat, a release party/benefit will be held from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. featuring a handful of bands as well as the author of the new book, Kill the Music.
Written by Michael G. Plumides Jr., the book explores the infamous 4808 Club that used to exist in Uptown Charlotte:
Kill the Music is the true story of a girl crazy college radio idealist and his relationships between family, friends, enemies, and the politics of the music scene. Set in the "Bible Belt" during the late 1980's and early 1990's, this poignant account explores his experiences as a college radio deejay at WUSC-FM, and the owner of the ill-fated and controversial 4808 Club in Uptown Charlotte, North Carolina. Through entertaining conversations with legendary rock stars, tales of sexual liaisons, and the ins and outs of concert promotion, Kill the Music is a no-holds-barred comedic, skewed, enlightening and sometimes sad look into a past not so long ago, and how oddly our society is connected.
In addition to a book signing, there will be live performances by Leisure McCorkle, Something about Vampires and Sluts, The Independents and Pattrick McKenna.
Portions of the $10 entry fee will go to Americans for the Arts.
Just saw online that Charlotte native Anthony Hamilton will be performing at Ovens Auditorium on June 28 along with Chrisette Michele and Musiq Soulchild.
No word on tickets as the show isn't up on the Ovens site yet.
