The Music Frenzy Festival will still take place on Saturday, April 18 - it will now be held at 300 S. Tryon instead of Dixie's Tavern.
My band, Actual Proof, recently had a live hip-hop group open up for us at a recent show. Watching and listening to them got me thinking: Its tough to pull off live hip-hop for several reasons some artistic and some technical.
Theres no shortage of MCs who think theyve got it but, in fact, need to spend some long hard hours rehearsing their material. Ive also seen MCs who are good with their tracks but have problems working with a live band. The interaction that makes for a good live performance is difficult for MCs who spend all their time flowing over tracks. Unfortunately, you cant just get up on stage with a live band and hope that all goes well.
Recently reunited band Toad the Wet Sprocket is hitting the road to celebrate its 20-year anniversary and will perform at Charlotte's McGlohon Theatre on May 23.
No information about tickets has been released.
According to one post by Simplified, the Music Frenzy Festival scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at Dixies Tavern has been cancelled:
"If you haven't already heard THE PROMOTERS of THE MUSIC FRENZY FESTIVAL had to cancel/postpone the event Saturday due to business issues with the owners of the parking lot that the festival was being held at. We appreciate all of our fans that were planning on coming out to support us at the festival. Please spread the word that this entire event will not be taking place to anyone you know that was planning on attending! We look forward to seeing you soon!"
If you go to the official Web site, it says the "event has moved," but no location is given.
Stay tuned...
