Tweeting for free music

Posted By on Thu, Jun 4, 2009 at 9:22 AM

Travis Barker and DJ AM may have found the happy medium between paying for albums and just downloading them for free.

The duo gave away their mixtape "Fix Your Face Vol. 2 - Coachella 09" this week for the cost of ... ONE TWEET!

So anyone looking to get their album can get it for free, they just have to post on Twitter saying "Download the new #trvsdjam mixtape - "Fix Your Face Vol. 2 - Coachella 09" in exchange for one tweet! http://twitter.trvsdjam.com"

After you post the tweet, you immediately get the link to download the mixtape (which isn't bad but is kind of awkward to listen to when you're still in bed at Noon cause it sounds live a rave).

Music Menu: The Stellas

The Stellas

The Charlotte rockers just got back from a two-week tour of U.S. bases in Asia and the Middle East. They even blogged about it for us at. It was a great chance for the band to give back to troops who are overseas, and now it's your chance to return the favor. Head on out and welcome the guys back home as a thank you for their good deed. And, you know what? They're also a great, live rock band that's worth seeing anyway. Amos' Southend.

Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday

Posted By on Wed, Jun 3, 2009 at 10:56 AM

It’s no surprise that arts funding is one of the casualties of the state’s budget crisis. Organizations and schools are getting creative with how they respond to the spending freeze. The Community Charter School is planning a family-friendly event at The Philosopher’s Stone this Saturday to benefit their music department after the state took back monies allocated for the school.

This event is slated for 2 p.m. through 2 a.m. and will include seven bands/performers — Deformati, Matthew Paul Butler, Thank You Spaceman, Sill Live Static, Near Gravity, Chasing Edison, Mons Venera — instrument-making activities, ping pong, a bean bag toss, hula hoops and more. Outdoor activities are slated for 2 to 7 p.m., after which, the music moves indoors.

Though the event is free, donations (cash or gently-used instruments) are encouraged.

Music teacher Artie Denham says, “We have instruments that are badly in need of repair, and we lack certain basics like a working clarinet, or a tuned piano. The goal of the fundraiser is not necessarily to buy new instruments, “but to repair or tune what instruments we have.”

Adam Lambert may be gay — who cares?

Posted By on Wed, Jun 3, 2009 at 10:41 AM

Seriously? A plane disappeared in the middle of the ocean, President Obama is in the Middle East, GM filed for bankruptcy, but people are more concerned about whether Jon or Kate is cheating, that Octo-mom got a TV deal, that those morons Spencer and Heidi have left a reality show and if Adam Lambert is holding hands with his boyfriend in this photo:

The latest rumor is that he'll be on the cover of Rolling Stone next issue to discuss his sexuality.

To this, I say, "Who gives a shit?" He's gay, he's not gay — Who cares? Maybe we should instead focus on the fact that he screams like a banshee and his theatrical personality belongs on Broadway regardless of his sexual preference?

Honestly, though. There are more important things going on in life... let's move on already.

Thank you, Jay-Z!

Posted By on Wed, Jun 3, 2009 at 10:17 AM

Well, I might have asked for it nearly two months ago, but someone has finally taken my advice and is also calling for the death of Auto-tune — and it's Jay-Z!

The rapper has written a new song about it, too. The tune is called, "Auto-tune is Dead."

Maybe now everyone will stop sounding the same... Long live originality!
