Before he took the stage at Tremont Music Hall last Tuesday, CL contributor, Mike McCray, caught up with Atlanta MC, Donnis, and talked about his upcoming projects, time in Japan and the military, and recording on the road. We also talked him into getting a Cook-Out tray before he left.
It's hard to believe that it's been 20 years since blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash while en route to Chicago.
One of my favorite songs by him is "Pride and Joy" and I always remember seeing his acoustic performance on MTV which was part of their unplugged series:

I was also fortunate enough to catch SRV in concert July 7, 1990, at the Garden State Arts Center (now the PNC Arts Center) in Holmdel, N.J. He was on a co-headlining tour with Joe Cocker and on that night, SRV opened for Cocker.
Ever wondered how a headlining band finds their opener? Apparently, its not as complicated of a process as one might think. Just ask Adam Siska, bass player of pop-punk bank The Academy Is ., Man, Im not
entirely sure how it all went down, but what Ive been told is that Gene Simmons was looking for a young band to open and his kids were listening to us one day and he must have liked what he heard. So his people called our manager and it took us about an eighth of a second to agree.
If youre thinking this is a big break for a small band, youd only be partially right. This is a great chance to get our music out to a whole new audience explains Siska. Weve been doing this for almost a decade, but we havent had the chance to reach an audience like this before. Thats a good thing.
