Last month, JJ Grey was forced to cancel his Visulite Theatre performance due to food poisoning. Well, it won't take him too long to be back in Charlotte. His 2011 tour has just been announced, and he'll perform at the Visulite on Jan. 20.
The Deal: International tastemaker, producer and guitarist drops an eclectic album with his band, The Business Intl.
The Good: What some would call all over the the place, I call awesome. Ronson pulled together some great guest appearances to go with his genre-bending soundtrack. There's Q-Tip over the "Bang Bang Bang." Ghostface Killah shouting out Michael Bivens and Bell Biv Devoe on "Lose It (In The End)." D'Angelo springing up seemingly out of the abyss for "Glass Mountain Trust."
G. Love has announced the release of his next album, Fixin' To Die. The Brushfire Records release will hit stores on Feb. 22. Recorded at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, the album was produced by Scott and Seth Avett of The Avett Brothers.
The trio formed a friendship over their love of back-road blues. Scott and Seth are said to perform on the album, as well.
It was an emotional recording session and I was truly blown away by the level of focus, care and passion Scott and Seth brought to it. It was a tremendously positive and encouraging experience. This is the most inspired Ive ever felt making a record, G. Love said.
As Scott Avett says, Theres a little bit of this record on all the previous G. Love records, you just had to look for it. This is the record we all knew he should make and he could make, but again, he had to open himself to the core to make it. Thats the difference.
30 Seconds to Mars
The Fillmore Charlotte
Nov. 1, 2010
The Deal: After two postponements, 30 Seconds to Mars finally performs its sold-out Charlotte concert.
The Good: The show started off with a high-energy set by The New Politics that got the crowd worked up and ready to go. Of course, after two postponements, the crowd didn't need any more anticipation.
30 Seconds to Mars hit the stage around 9:20, with a delayed entrance by singer Jared Leto. His brother, Shannon, was quite impressive on the drum set for the duration of the show. The band did its best to get the crowd involved sometimes to a fault and Leto invited a couple dozen people on stage with them at the encore. Earlier in the night, Leto invited a guy on stage with a prosthetic leg who proceeded to take it off and hop around with Leto.
The Bad: Leto walked out on stage with a black jacket, pants and shoes, with sunglasses on looking like the Terminator and failing to shed any stereotype that he might be a stuck-up actor. It seemed to take him a while to gain comfort up on stage, but even then, many of his actions seemed a bit forced.
Here's a quick rundown of what's new in stores this week:
Mariah Carey Merry Christmas II You
Neil Diamond Dreams
Brian Eno Small Craft On A Milk Sea
Good Charlotte Cardiology
Matt & Kim Sidewalks
Brad Paisley Hits Alive
Weezer Death to False Metal
The "talk of the town" over the weekend was all about Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert's rally in Washington D.C. and this performance showing Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) and Ozzy Osbourne in a "Peace Train" vs. "Crazy Train" face-off.

My only complaint is that both songs were interrupted. Funny, but also a bit annoying.
And credit to Ozzy who headlined the Voodoo Music Festival in New Orleans that night.
