Interpol w/ School of Seven Bells
The Fillmore Charlotte
May 3, 2011
The Deal: NYC's Interpol makes its Charlotte debut in front of half-full Fillmore.
The Charlotte Community Safety Committee has a meeting scheduled for May 5, where it will talk further about the proposed noise ordinance changes.
The proposal no longer bans outdoor amplified music, but aims to find a balance via decibels and targeting repeat offenders instead of blanketing the city.
You can find an agenda for the meeting, as well as more about the new noise ordinance changes (in the April agenda) here.
No decisions are expected at the May meeting.
Zeus, Labyrinth, Graves of Valor, Demonstration, Wretched
Tremont Music Hall
April 29, 2011
The Deal: I have had the privilege of witnessing the evolution of Zeus, an amazingly talented local metal band that has been around since about 2005. It all started way back in a practice space off of Brookshire Freeway where Ricky Culp and Sam Fleming practiced in separate bands. After a whole ordeal, Sam ended up sharing Ricky and the rest of Moustache Farm's practice space and established a friendship and admiration for each other's abilities. So they got together and constructed Zeus as a side-project that ended up being something amazing. From the moment these two boys began jamming out together, beautiful things happened. Guitar riffs became tech-ier than ever and the drumming, as sick as it comes. It took them awhile to secure all current members of the band: Brennon Campbell, Deucy Wayne and Adam Lane but as things fell into place, it was like witnessing the birth of polyrhythm. As each member became a part of it, the music got more technical and intense and as a result, they rocked harder and harder.
Here's a quick rundown of what's new in stores this week:
Beastie Boys Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2
Brandi Carlile Live at Benaroya Hall With The Seattle Symphony
Fleet Foxes Helplessness Blues
Jennifer Lopez Love?
Stevie Nicks In Your Dreams
Sade The Ultimate Collection
Shinedown Somewhere in the Stratosphere
Sixx A.M. This Is Gonna Hurt
Miley Cyrus decided to sing Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at a recent concert and it sounds horrible. Not only that, but check out the beginning of the video when she starts kicking her legs around like Elaine in Seinfeld I think she's trying to dance.

Usher (with Akon)
Time Warner Cable Arena
April 30, 2011
The Deal: After much anticipation from teenage girls and old-school fans from all over the city, Usher brought his OMG Tour to Charlotte. And while yes, Akon did perform (he looked me in my eyes, too!), this post is about Usher, and Usher alone.
The Good: I could go on and on about what a great concert this was, but I fear that would be the 16-year-old girl in me gushing. I'll let the video clips I smashed together below do the telling. Usher is a performer, first and foremost.
The Bad: Only that I wasn't the girl picked to be brought onto stage during Usher's performance of "Trading Places." I might have had a heart attack to be serenaded by one of the sexiest men in R&B, but hey ... a small price to pay. Jealousy and envy was in full effect.
The Verdict: I'm in love.
