Sneak peek at I'm With You's cover art

This is the cover for Red Hot Chili Peppers' newest album, I'm With You. They've had a history of long breaks and crazy cover art, so this release isn't too head scratching. It's their first release since 2006's international best-seller Stadium Arcadium. A tour, Grammy nominations, countless high school band cover versions, and just like that, they disappeared. Flea went back to school during the hiatus, but after a long break (and collaboration with producer Rick Rubin), the Chili Peppers are back this August.

30 Free Downloads from Lollapalooza Artists

Posted By on Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 4:02 PM

Freebies abound in this recent update from the upcoming Lollapalooza festival. For those of you who can't make it to the August festival in Chicago (I am a sad, sad member of that club), some of the featuring artists have songs available through Spinner. The big hitters (My Morning Jacket, Bright Eyes) are here, but there are plenty of lesser known groups (Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. and Mountain Goats) in this sampler to keep an eye on.

Live Adele show streaming online

Posted By on Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 4:01 PM

Live from Philadelphia (and available anywhere on the internet), Adele performs six songs. She's hot on the heels of her February release 21 and in heavy rotation on pop radio. The concert is a little more sparse and lower in tempo than the radio hits, but has a bantering side of the singer. Adele apologetically says "it's not a concert for a party," and cackles between songs, but it's a set list worth checking out on NPR's website.

Interview: Getting real with Siggy 'Dealz' Jackson

Posted By on Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 11:48 AM

Dealz Jackson

From their humble beginnings in Gary, Ind., to their rise to the top of the pop charts, the Jackson family has been a force to be reckoned with for decades. Their contribution to music has helped shaped the industry over the years — and they show no signs of stopping. The Jackson's new generation is moving into the spotlight, but one in particular is venturing into his own lane ... by stepping outside of the singing roots of the family. Siggy "Dealz" Jackson, son of original J5 member Jackie, is introducing the Jackson flavor to the world of hip-hop.

“Music has always been a part of me, but I decided to pursue it because I wanted to bring a change to music. It’s not about the money or material things, for me music is more about helping others; if the people listening get something out of my music, then I’ve done my job,” says Dealz. “When I was a kid, we used to do talent shows for the family. Everyone else was singing, and I always rapped. Rap is in my heart, always has been, to me it’s more poetic. Rap has always been considered as 'gangsta' music, but it’s actually just more passionate than anything.”

That passion is evident in his new single “That’s How I Feel,” which features his father Jackie and his uncle Jermaine. "The song is me basically telling my father how I feel about women," Dealz says. "You don’t have to call women names and degrade them just to have a song.”

Dealz isn’t new to the music game; he released a self-titled mixtape in 2007, and a new album is expected this summer. And despite having a famous last name, he isn't relying on his familial notoriety to open doors or propel his career forward.

“Nothing has ever been handed to me; I have worked hard for everything that I have. I started out doing street promotions for artists and have worked my way up from there,” says Dealz. “It’s important that I do continue to represent my family, but more importantly continue to respect the name and brand that they have worked to build.”

This year marks the two-year anniversary of Michael Jackson’s death. Dealz is using his passion for fast cars and motorcycles to honor his uncle’s memory. “My friend Porkchop and I just unveiled a custom dedication bike that has pictures of my uncle on it. I also built a custom dedication vehicle for him named 'Melody.' It’s a 2005 black-and-red Mustang with custom interior, with about 550 Horsepower under the hood.”

As fans around the world continue to mourn the loss of the King of Pop, Dealz hopes they keep one thing in mind, “I hope people remember my uncle at his best and for the good man that he was. He genuinely cared about everyone.”

Norma Jean tonight (7/7/11)

Posted By on Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 9:23 AM

Georgia metalcore band swims waters crowded with such noisemakers. But they rise above with convincing musical brutality and lyrics that beg a listen. They're screamo and noisy to be sure, but melodic overlays creep in and out, while the occasional epic track slowly builds, exposes its fangs and then blasts out the amps like a pissed pit bull. There's plenty more where that came from, as tonight's bill features nine other like-minded bands. $15-$18. Amos' Southend. www.amossouthend.com.

Dangermuffin tonight (7/7/11)

Posted By on Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 9:23 AM

Call it a Charleston state of mind. The trio Dangermuffin writes cheerful rock that's colored by the sunny South Carolina low country. Yeah, some songs don't get anywhere, but others gel nicely as the trio takes the listener on a head-swaying jam band trip. Last year's release Moonscapes has everything from Grateful Dead chops to reggae moods and country front porch play-alongs. $7. Double Door Inn. www.doubledoorinn.com.

The Deal: The bearded man, Zac Brown and his band rocked out Verizon Wireless Amphitheater to a sold-out crowd. Emphasis on the word rock, because even though Zac Brown Band is a country group, they rock too.
