Mayer Hawthorne & The Country Beyond being a soul music revivalist, Hawthorne accomplished the feat of crafting songs that give you the warm, fuzzy feeling of something familiar. A quick scan of the liner notes, though, will tell you that they’re creations all his own, oozing the Motown sound his hometown trademarked. He’s taken the soul torch and ran with it, and instead of reinventing the wheel, simply made feel-good pop music. $15-$18. Amos’ Southend. www.amossouthend.com.
