OK, so, maybe it's just me, but people are raving over Deanna Brown's audition last night on American Idol. I checked out the video here, and to me, she sounds like a female Elmer Fudd. I'm not into all the vibrato.
I think it's funny that one of the judges says she has an "interesting voice." Then they all kiss her ass and send her to Hollywood. Of course, various online media are saying she was the best of the night... Seriously?!?
Apparently, she has a band and her singing there is a little better...but not a great improvement.

As for the rest of the show - some good, some bad, stay tuned...
Millions will tune in to American Idol tonight or, as I like to call it, America's Biggest Karaoke Contest.
Thousands of youngsters from around the country will try their best to win the largest popularity contest in the land, while singing karaoke each week.
It always cracks me up when Simon Cowell says a contestant's performance is a "little too karaoke." Um, yeah, that's because it is karaoke. OK, there's a live band instead of a taped song, and the songs are usually cut down to a minute or so...
Apparently, the geniuses at Fox are hoping to change things up and not air as much of the craptacular contestants isn't that the part most people love to watch?
They're also not going to do Idol Gives Back - a telethon of sorts where they ask you, the poor viewer sitting at home, to donate your hard-earned money to charity. Meanwhile, American Idol gets $700,000 for each 30-second ad. Where is all of that money going?
There are going to be four judges this year at least they added someone who has present-day music experience in Kara DioGuardi...
And, well, who cares, really? Paula Abdul will cry, Randy Jackson will call everyone his "dawg," Simon will tear people to shreds in the most accurate judging of the three and the new girl...well, we'll have to wait and see.
I'll post here from time to time - depending on how much of the show I can stomach - to give contestants nicknames, criticize the so-called "good performances" and continue to wonder why the show is so popular, yet so many former winners have gone nowhere.
Anyone heard from Ruben Studdard recently? What about Fantasia? How about David What's-his-name from last season? Seen Taylor Hicks on a street corner playing harmonica?

The Deal: Second Annual Charlotte Music Awards honors variety of acts from around the Carolinas.
Here's a list of winners from last night's CMAs. For fun, I'll put a * next to the ones I correctly predicted being that I don't know a whole lot about country, I sure do know how to pick 'em!
Entertainer of the Year Kenny Chesney*
Female Vocalist of the Year Carrie Underwood*
Male Vocalist of the Year Brad Paisley
New Artist of the Year Lady Antebellum*
Vocal Group of the Year Rascal Flatts
Vocal Duo of the Year Sugarland*
Single of the Year "I Saw God Today"
Album of the Year Troubador
Song of the Year "Stay"*
Musical Event of the Year Robert Plant and Allison Krauss
Music Video of the Year "Waitin' on a Woman"
Musician of the Year Mac McAnally
Well, I was close on Single and Musical Event...and I haven't measured, but it's possible Brad Paisley wears the biggest cowboy hat.
Throw your cowboy hat in the air, or wave it around like you just don't care... Either way the Country Music Awards are on tv tonight.
You can click here for a list of nominees and come back here tomorrow for a list of winners.
In the meantime, here are my half-assed predictions on who will win tonight keep in mind, I'm not a fan of 95 percent of country music:
Entertainer of the Year Hasn't Kenny Chesney won this award for the last 20 years? OK, maybe just three times at the CMAs, but the last four times at the ACMs. He's the safe bet.
\
Female Vocalist of the Year It's a tough competition, but you'd have to assume that Carrie Underwood is going to take it home. Unfortunately, Faith Hill isn't in the category so we can't see her freak out.
Male Vocalist of the Year I have no idea on this one. I'd say just give it to the guy with the biggest cowboy hat.
Every once in a while, I get caught up in a ridiculous music-based reality show. I never watch CMT, but somehow got sucked into "Gone Country" celebrities who want to be country singers.
The winner of the first season was Julio Iglesias Jr. and last season was Sebastian Bach of Skid Row fame. The whole thing is generally a trainwreck hosted by John Rich of Big & Rich.
Now, there's word of a third season to air in January. The constestants are George Clinton, Sheila E., former Miss USA Tara Conner, Taylor Dayne, Monkees lead vocalist/drummer Micky Dolenz, actor Richard Grieco and "American Idol" first-season runner-up Justin Guarini.
Yeah - can you picture any of them in country music? Probably as much as Iglesias and Bach...
It was announced today that MTV's TRL will be leaving the air after 10 years.
Good riddance! The network that has all but abandoned music on television is getting rid of one of their only music shows, but also one of the worst out there.
That's what I like watching screaming teenagers idolize talentless hacks. I'd probably be disappointed if the show ever had good music on it. In this case, it's just another way to get all the garbage off of mainstream media.
See ya, TRL! I won't miss you a bit!
The Metrolina Theatre Association (MTA) Awards better than the VMAs
Spirit Square was the place to be last night; a red carpet led to a reception that led to the McGlohon Theatre, which was packed with members of the local theater community honoring and toasting to their craft.
I had the privilege of presenting several awards alongside the Observers Paid to Party Sarah Aarthun.
