WTF Wednesday (7/30/2014): DMX goes for a ride

Posted By on Wed, Jul 30, 2014 at 10:13 AM

Even the rough and tough DMX gets scared sometimes. The rapper was videoed on the Sling Shot at Orlando's Magical Midway recently. The ride catapults the participants more than 390 feet in the air while strapped into a chair attached to bungee cords.

WTF Wednesday (7/23/2014): Flaming Lips + Miley Cyrus = ?

Posted By on Wed, Jul 23, 2014 at 10:24 AM

The Flaming Lips and Miley Cyrus recently teamed up for a NSFW video that can only be called weird ... or a really intense acid trip.

"Blonde SuperFreak Steals the Magic Brain" was originally intended to be a video for a song that referenced LSD — big surprise. In the video, Moby enlists a woman to steal John F. Kennedy's brain, which Cyrus has, because the brain holds the formula for LSD.

Um, yeah. Maybe you should just watch and make up your own story.

Cyrus will perform at Time Warner Cable Arena on Aug. 6, 2014.

Posted By on Mon, Jul 21, 2014 at 4:28 PM

On July 15, 2014, Weird Al Yankovic released his 14th studio album, and his first in three years. Along with the album's release, the King of Parodies unleashed eight videos. Featuring covers of Iggy Azalea, Robin Thicke and Southern Culture on the Skids among them, some of the videos are better than others.

So, in case you missed any of them, here are the eight videos — from worst to best:

8. "Sports Song" is a valiant effort at making fun of sports teams and over-enthusiastic sports fans, but it's hard to make a marching band song that's catchy.

WTF Wednesday (7/16/2014): Paris Hilton's new video

Posted By on Wed, Jul 16, 2014 at 11:39 AM

* Paris Hilton released a video for her song "Come Alive." The auto-tuned club song has plenty of thumping beats and simplistic lyrics. It's as bad as you'd expect it to be:

* Andre Johnson, who raps under the name Christ Bearer, has finally given an interview to explain why he cut his own penis off. "Yes, I was using drugs that night, but I was in complete control," Johnson told E!. "I cut it off because that was the root of all my problems. My solution to the problem was the realization that sex is for mortals, and I am a god...Those kinds of activities got me into trouble, and I came here to be a god."

Former Earl Greyhound bassist Kamara Thomas takes a solo turn

Posted By on Wed, Jan 23, 2013 at 8:35 AM

In the department of spacey alt-country or cosmic American music - or whatever it is we're calling folk-tinged country-rock these days - Kamara Thomas, the former bass player for indie power trio Earl Greyhound, has dropped a video from her upcoming solo album, Earth Hero, that's a real stunner.

Thomas
  • Thomas
The song, "You Wreck Me," has all the languid, atmospheric, space-Americana wooziness you'd expect from acoustic Neil Young, Lucinda Williams or Wrecking Ball-era Emmylou Harris, but Thomas is a terrific singer/songwriter in her own right. While this particular track is more traditionally country than some of the other material on Earth Hero, the entire 7-song album is similarly spare and expansive, intimate and cinematic - and hauntingly nostalgic.

I'll be offering up a full review soon. For now, enjoy "You Wreck Me."
