Hard News Sexting shouldn't be a crime

CNN is reporting that a 18 year old boy who sent a naked picture of his 16-year-old girlfriend to his friends after an argument is now on the sex offender's registry.
For the rest of his life, he'll be lumped with child rapists, molesters and the other icky people on the registry. His mistake was being young. His parents' mistake was buying him a cell phone with a camera. But this should not be a crime.
Teenagers do stupid shit. Sending a naked picture to a girlfriend or boyfriend, no matter how old you are, is one of the dumbest things someone can do. Naked pictures always come back to bite you, ever so toughly, in your naked ass.
Phillip Alpert found out the hard way. He had just turned 18 when he sent a naked photo of his 16-year-old girlfriend, a photo she had taken and sent him, to dozens of her friends and family after an argument. The high school sweethearts had been dating for almost 2½ years. "It was a stupid thing I did because I was upset and tired and it was the middle of the night and I was an immature kid," says Alpert.
Maybe the parents of the 16-year-old shouldn't have given her a phone with a camera on it either.
There have been cases where "sexting" got out of hand. For instance, an Ohio girl killed herself after nude pictures she sent to her boyfriend were passed around.
Last year, Jessica Logan, a Cincinnati, Ohio, teen, hanged herself after her nude photo, meant for her boyfriend, was sent to teenagers at several high schools. For months after, her father says, she was the subject of ridicule and taunts. "Everyone knew about that photo," Bert Logan says. "She could not live it down." On July 3, his wife found her. "She had been getting dressed to go out. The curling iron was still warm. It was so unexpected," Logan says. "I heard my wife scream, I ran up to Jessie's room, but it was too late."No charges had been filed against Jessica's 19-year-old boyfriend, who disseminated the photo, nor had the school taken any action, Logan says. He says he and his wife want to warn parents and students of the dangers of sexting. The Logans are fighting to raise awareness nationally and to advocate for laws that address sexting and cyber-bullying.
At what point do parents take responsibility for teaching their kids what not to do? A teenager shouldn't send naked pictures. How many times have naked pictures hurt adults?
While many adult books tell women to send their man a sexy text during the day, those books aren't meant for kids. But there is no way one mistake should turn a boy into a registered sex offender.

I broke the law this past weekend.
And if I get the chance, I'm going to break the law again. And again. And again.
Yes, I committed a crime against nature when boy toy and I got a little tipsy and he entered the wrong hole, accidentally on purpose.
According to the state of North Carolina, what we did was unnatural and a Class I felony. I guess it's a good thing we closed the curtains.
As I looked at the law, I thought about all of the books that I've been reading lately and wondered why is anal sex such a hot button issue. Is it because this sex act is mostly associated with gay men? Or do we live in such a prudent society that people can't express themselves sexually?
Oral sex is also illegal in North Carolina. Right now, I'm looking at about 20 years in prison for my drunken hookup. But it was worth it.

So, what's it all about and how did a romance author make the transition to erotic?

Creative Loafing: Tell us about your current erotica release.
Truth In Sensuality is my debut erotic fiction title. Featuring Lucilla Fairchild and Ryken Gabrielle as stars of a popular adult series in Europe. The couple has worked together successfully for years until a new man in Lucilla’s life forces Ryken to admit he sees his lovely co-star as more than just a friend or ... co-worker.
How did you write such a hot and steamy book while dealing with you regular 9 to 5 and other duties?
Well I’ve written constantly for over 15 years and I’ve worked pretty much during all that time, so it’s become second nature to mix in my writing and real life. Writing rejuvenates me-nourishes me, so it’s something that I feel compelled to do almost every day. I write whenever my life allows for it. During my 9-5 hours- breaktime, lunchtime, before work and after are utilized for writing.
Does writing erotica spice up your personal relationships?
Well my personal relationship is pretty spicy already so I guess it helps to motivate me when creating these scenes. That, combined with a fertile imagination and a love of romance are all components that go into my creative process.
Who do you read in the erotica genre?
A hodgepodge of different people. I read two titles last year that really stuck out in my mind as great stories. Not sure if they are new authors but I look forward to reading more from them in the future: Surrender by Kimberly Zant and Blackmailed by Annmarie McKenna.
Have you ever gotten inspiration for your work while doing regular things, ie. cleaning your house?
Oh yes, for me that inspiration can come at anytime from cleaning the house, sitting in traffic- I rarely have a pad around to jot down whatever strikes me. My feeling is that if it’s powerful enough I won’t forget it.
