BEST LOCAL ACTOR
Hank West

Staff Pick

On the strength of his recent portrait of Richard III, the best Shakespearean performance we’ve seen here in many a year, West moves to the head of Charlotte’s woefully winnowed pack. Although he continues to be shunned at Children’s Theatre, West can no longer be pigeonholed as a comedy eccentric. Dominant strains in the West dossier continue to be the odd (Felix Ungar in The Odd Couple), the twisted (Brother Boy in Sordid Lives), and the demented (Renfield in Dracula). His kingly triumph with Shakespeare Carolina should win him new subjects.
