Our Charlotte Theater Awards have become a cornerstone of the local arts scene, picking up the highest of compliments: They've been emulated by the Metrolina Theatre Association, now in the midst of their third season. There are good reasons to accord the MTA awards the credibility they have quickly earned. Each award is decided by a consensus of panelists.
And there are more than enough to go around. Sixty-seven awards were given at the most recent MTA ceremonies at Spirit Square last September -- the best cast party in town.
So have we become obsolete? No way. We're totally immune to the vagaries of an organization that provides recognition to its members.
Below, you will find the highlights of our roll call of excellence, the finalists in most of our glamour categories. A full list of personally certified CL nominees appears on our Web site. Yes, I saw all of those shows and events.
I'll further winnow down the best of the best when I announce CL's 19th Annual Charlotte Theater Awards next week. Meanwhile, gaze at the bounty of quality theater performances, productions and craft that local theatergoers witnessed last year.
