Food News Guy Fieri not coming to Charlotte after all

This screen shot comes from the Ticketmaster website. It's official. Guy Fieri's scheduled show in Charlotte on May 18 is no longer happening.
The canceled show is a big disappointment as I know many of you had wanted to go and registered to win the pair of tickets I was giving away on the blog.
I know you are all bummed. But, I have good news! In lieu of the Guy Fieri show tickets, I will be giving away one pair of tickets to Steve Martin AND one pair of tickets to the Mother Earth Brewing Beer and Food Pairing Dinner at Blue restaurant, presented by Charlotte Good Eats and Meets!

Cyros Sushi and Sake bar in SouthPark is soon going to be known as Cy's Sushi and Sake Bar. Owner/Chef Cy Santos has decided to go solo and end his partnership with Ro Lawsin. Expect new menu items, an expanded restaurant space, and more.
Take advantage of their current BYO wine offer right now. Bring in your own bottle of wine and you can do your own wine and sushi pairings on the cheap. What's even better is that there is no corkage fee. Kampai!

Mouthful Photos: Sunflour Baking Company

With home-made Pop Tarts, giant, flaky, buttery chocolate croissants (amazing!), cookies, big cinnamon buns, cupcakes, and fresh breads rolling out of their kitchen, Sunflour Baking Company is a bright spot of sunshine in Elizabeth. The bakery focuses on quality products and uses organic and locally-grown ingredients whenever possible.

Pulling an aluminum foil package out of the oven to serve your guests probably isn't the classiest thing you can do, but you'd be surprised how incredibly easy and delicious cooking this way can be. Ain't no shame in it.
This recipe comes from The Pioneer Woman Ree Drummond. Basically, you cook some pasta and make a quick tomato sauce, then you dump raw shrimp over the sauce, and then pour the pasta over that. Then you transfer the entire mix into a foil package and throw it into the oven for 15-20 minutes.
What comes out is a fragrant linguine dish tossed with succulent, garlicy shrimp infused with bold flavors after being steam cooked in fresh, homemade tomato sauce. It was so good I was practically sucking up the sauce with a straw. Well, not really, but I think I may ditch all my other pasta dishes for this one.
A tip: I created and baked the foil package in a baking pan to prevent any liquid from spilling into the oven.

If the beer and festivities at the Beer, Bourbon, and BBQ Festival happening this Saturday in SouthPark aren't enough for you this month, enjoy more local craft brews and live music at the North Carolina Brewers and Music Festival next Saturday, May 14.
The festival, presented by Rural Hill, will be held in Huntersville and will run from 10:30 am to 8 pm. All proceeds from NCBMF will go towards the preservation and advancement of Rural Hill and its mission.
The $45 tickets include over three hours of free tasting, a day packed full of great music, beer education, and a chance to learn about and interact with area non-profits.
