We all know that October is breast cancer awareness month, but this year, local boutiques are creating their own events for "Pink Week." Pink Week is a seven-day, citywide project designed to increase funds and spread awareness for breast cancer, and tonight the party continues. Lotus Boutique is hosting a "Pink Party" entitled "Style for the Cure," where shoppers can enjoy 10 percent off everything in the store (for one day only), even the fabulous new fall collection.
There will also be an opportunity to talk fashion with local style and beauty experts, complimentary appetizers and, of course, pink martinis! The event is sponsored by SKYY, POP Beauty and Aveda Hair Institute, so if you've ever been to a Lotus event, you know there will be tons of excitement and fashion waiting for you this evening.
Grab a friend and come out to support breast cancer awareness. Who knows, you just might go home with a pair of dark blue topaz and diamond earrings from Diamonds Direct! Oh, did I forget to mention there's a raffle full of awesome prizes going on as well? Don't miss it! The fun starts at 6 p.m. but if you can't make it, you can still make a donation of any amount here.
Lotus is located at 1111 Metropolitan Ave, Suite 140.

Fashion these days has literally gone to the dogs … and it couldn’t be a more wonderful thing! On Oct. 21, SouthPark Mall will kick off its Simon Fashion Now during Trends & Friends Night, where designers, models and everyone’s favorite four-legged friends will strut their stuff on the catwalk.
Four fashion designers will compete with their celebrity models and pretty pooches, during the Simon Fashion Now Design Wars segment, and those in the audience can decide which piece they’ll bid on in the silent auction to benefit the Humane Society of Charlotte, “a community resource committed to improving the lives of companion animals.”
Media model and designer partners include:
MODEL T. Strong, The Style Mayvin with DESIGNER Amanda Wagner, Amanda Wagner Designs
MODEL Dayvee Sutton, NewsChannel 36 with DESIGNER Tara Davis, Flow by Tara Davis
MODEL Heather Waliga, News 14 with DESIGNER Emily Kramer and Amanda Gaskins, Anno Domini Designs
MODEL Tenikka Smith, WSOC with DESIGNER Miikelle Fowler, MiikelleDeFo
Well-known fashion judges such as Amy Wiegand of Carolina Bride and Joey Hewell of Fox News Rising will help put the competition to rest by critiquing the designs.
In addition to the entertainment excitement, there will also be cocktails, so come thirsty! Festivities will commence at 6:30 p.m. All of the pooches will be adoptable and ready for a loving home so come with a big heart, as well. This event is free and open to the public and will take place in the Center Court of SouthPark Mall located at 4400 Sharon Road.
In honor of breast cancer awareness month, Ruby’s Gift will be hosting Project Art Aid Goes Pink on Oct. 22, an event where more than 100 pieces by local artists will go on sale to benefit the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Campaign.
Keeping in fashion with the “Go Pink” campaign, all of the art on sale contains hints of pink. So, if you like being fabulous and have an extreme amount of pink pride, then this event is sure to win you over.
From 6 p.m. till 9 p.m., Ruby’s Gift on Selwyn Avenue will host a mini shindig with music, food, wine and local art. The best part is all of the artwork that’s sure to woo onlookers will be sold with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society. Art will be up for sale at Ruby’s NoDa and Selwyn Avenue locations, but the exhibit is only available at the Selwyn Avenue store.
Project Art Aid is a local organization of artists that come together to devise local solutions to global issues through art. This year, over 100 area artists and cancer survivors have put together 100 squares of individual art to form a mosaic heart. Its exhibit at Ruby’s Selwyn Avenue location will be the last place to view it before it’s moved to Presbyterian Hospital’s new oncology unit.

Certainly, all things were grand at local fashion designer Lore Emelio's fall 2011 showcase event. The event took place on Oct. 1 at Silver Hammer Studios. Check out these photos from the runway show.
There are tons of boutiques gaining exposure in The Queen City, especially in the past month with Fashion's Night Out and Charlotte Fashion Week, but who's concentrating on men's fashion? There's a new boutique on the block ... or there will be on Oct. 1. The grand opening event of Keaton's Cupboard will begin at 10 a.m. and run through 6 p.m. I've been told that attendees can expect to find an array of men's suits, shirts, ties and shoes from various brands like Steven Land, Carlo Lusso, Modena and Giorgio Fiorelli to name a few.
Now ladies, if you want to accompany your guy to the grand opening, this store has stylish shoe brands for you to shop as well, like Jessica Simpson and Steve Madden. And if you're a "Size Sexy" lady, a term used by the owner to replace the commonly used terminology "plus size," there are fabulously stylish PZI Jeans. Also available are new brands such as Jibri, Igigi and LaDan's Closet.
Keaton's Cupboard is located at 3621 The Plaza Charlotte 28205 or visit online at www.keatons-cupboard.com.

The cool fall Carolina weather brings out the boots for our wardrobe, and right now Frye boots are all the rage, as celebrities like Anne Hathaway and Emma Stone have been seen sporting them.
On Monday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monkee's of Lake Norman in Davidson will be hosting a Frye Trunk Show. During the trunk show, you will be able to meet with FRYE company representative, John Smyth, as he personally helps with your selections of boots and shoes.
The best part of this trunk show is not that you will be leaving with a beautiful pair of Frye boots or shoes, but you will also be helping a good cause. A percentage of all FRYE purchases will be donated to the Marnie Jude Foundation. The Marnie Jude Foundation is to provide financial support for and raise awareness of the necessity of finding a cure for all childhood cancers. So ladies, get your Frye on!
