The Metrolina Theatre Association (MTA) Awards…better than the VMAs

mtaawards208.jpg

Spirit Square was the place to be last night; a red carpet led to a reception that led to the McGlohon Theatre, which was packed with members of the local theater community honoring and toasting to their craft.

I had the privilege of presenting several awards alongside the Observer’s Paid to Party Sarah Aarthun.

Today's Menu (9/15/2008)

Earthride Any band lurking in the back alleys of doom rock will inevitably evoke the gods that were Black Sabbath. There are many outfits doing the doom thing but count Earthride among the more choice picks in the crop. The band's ode to Motorhead, via the throaty vocals, also blasts into the mix while the bass-heavy foundation and droning guitars amp-up their live shows with heaviness. The band is akin to a slow moving bulldozer shaking the earth and thrashing all in its path. With Hope and Suicide. Milestone (Samir Shukla)

Well, Kanye West's temper makes another appearance in the headlines. He was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport yesterday, where it appears he and his manager wrestled a photographer's camera away and smashed it. See the video.

Nikko - now serving models

Posted By on Thu, Sep 11, 2008 at 4:52 PM

nikkomodel108.jpg

Next week is Charlotte Fashion Week, but there’s fashion every week in Charlotte, thanks to Carolina Fashion TV’s Fashion Wednesdays at Nikko.

Sure, Charlotte isn’t N.Y.C., L.A., or even Miami or Chicago – but we’re just as trendy, fashion forward, cultural… and the G.R.I.T.S (girls raised in the south) are just as hot! Fashion Wednesdays are further evidence of that.

Vida, the Tyra Banks of Charlotte has gone from model to model maker – she is the one behind Carolina Fashion TV.

I arrive to a completely packed Nikko (even the valet was full) and she just handed me the microphone and told me to use it.

I could barely walk, let alone do my little turn on the catwalk, so the first thing I did was introduce the Lotus fashion show and my own fashion – I was wearing Lotus of course… paired with an Ace bandage, which might be the hottest new fall trend.

Madonna causes controversy in Rome

Posted By on Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 4:03 PM

Currently on her Sticky & Sweet Tour, Pop star legend, Madonna visited Rome on Sat., Sept. 6 for a performance that left a bit of controversy brewing. Already know for her provacativeness and the ability to piss off the Vatican (like she did in her the '89 music video for "Like a Prayer" and with multiple stagings and props at various shows), Madonna did it again without a care. This time while playing in Rome, she dedicated "Like a Virgin" to the pope.

Read more at Reuters or watch the video below and hear what she said.
