It's a sparse week... I guess the holiday on Monday and Valentine's Day made people rethink new releases? I don't know... might as well pick up an old one in the meantime. It looks like things are slowing down for a few weeks ahead...
If you've watched any of the coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver especially the Opening Ceremonies chances are you've seen the remake of "We Are the World" which was done in support of Haiti.
The video, kicks off at 1:30:

Now, where do I start with this... How about the beginning? You're trying to get donations for Haiti, and, most likely, you'd like those donations to come from people with money. So, to kick it off with Justin Beiber. Most adults are probably watching and saying, "Who is that girl with the boyish haircut?" Seriously, Justin Bieber to start it off?!?
Next up, you have Jennifer Hudson (I've never been a fan of her screaming), but regardless of her talents, she's paired up with Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls. Scherzinger had two successful albums with the PCD before leaving to release her solo album. You remember that solo album, right? It was released in... oh yeah, it was never released.
It picks up a little with a toned-down Jennifer Nettles and powerful Josh Groban... Tony Bennett, Mary J. Blige... and then you get Janet, er, Michael, er... one of the Jacksons. Barbra Striesand...
Um, Miley Cyrus? Really? Teens can't even pay their cell phone bills but you want them to donate to Haiti? And then we get Jamie Foxx and a screaming Wyclef Jean?
Adam Levine, Pink... Usher, Celine Dion... a quick guitar riff by Orianthi... Fergie sings... Toni Braxton...
Then it goes downhill again. Lil Wayne singing with Autotune - now it's a fucking joke, right? Jamie Foxx imitating Ray Charles again? Seriously, Jamie? You won an Oscar, let's move on...
Freakin' T-Pain?! OK... I give up. Seriously. People should donate to Haiti for the sake of the people in that country, but not because these people ruined a classic song from my youth.
I don't mind the breakdown with LL Cool J, Will.i.am, Kanye, Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes.... I just thought that where the original used talented singers, this one failed... The original had Lionel Richie, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Kenny Rogers, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson... It was bound not to meet such a high mark. They should have started fresh and done a new song.
UPDATE: Jay-Z doesn't like it either.
Three Days Grace has announced its upcoming tour dates, with support by Chevelle and Adelita's Way. The tour will stop at Bojangles Coliseum on April 11. Tickets are on sale on Feb. 20.
It's Valentine's Day weekend and for those of us who don't give it shit, and/or are chasing shattered ass on Sunday, these video cards from North Carolina based comedy troupe, Green Bench, should help you tell that girl, exactly what you want to do. Whether it's something freaky or something with a friend... There's even an Auto-Tune ode for those of you looking to end that relationship before you're obligated to buy roses, candy and other crap that day. The songs are funny too.

Carnival is swiftly approaching in Brazil and a local mayor in the country is apparently wildin' before it even starts. Reuters reports that Mayor Jose Neto has banned rap and funk music that disrespects authority or incites violence from the festival that traditionally let's anything go, in favor of more traditional Brazilian music like Samba.
The punishment for playing some P-Funk or N.W.A. during Carnival in his town? Try arrest and up to six months in prison, if you refuse to turn it off.
Carvinal is a week long celebration and Brazil's most popular holiday. The party is so big that the government dishes out condoms and runs public service announcements to try and quell the spreads of AIDS.
Damn. Read more here.
Phoenix will perform at the Uptown Amphitheatre on June 12, the day before they make an appearance at the 2010 Bonnaroo Festival.
No word on ticket sales yet.
Sunday was the beginning of a somber week for hip-hop. Not only was it the 10th anniversary of Big Pun's death but it was also the birthday of legendary, but now deceased, hip-hop icon, J Dilla, who also passed away this week four years ago.
Tons of people kicked out tributes of their own but Hot 97's Peter Rosenberg (remember the "Throw Some Cheese" parody a few years ago?) has put together the most complete retrospective mix I've seen anywhere online.
Three parts, 75 tracks featuring everything from freestyles, singles, guest appearances, interviews, instrumentals and unreleased material. Who remembered Shaq having a record with Big Pun? I know I didn't! A thorough look at the man's work and his lyrical legacy. Kudos.
