With today marking the 14th anniversary of his death at age 25, after battling six days to survive gunshot wounds sustained on the strip in Las Vegas, people all over the World are remembering Tupac Shakur.
Tribute stories, blog posts and tweets have been circulating since midnight with people reflecting on his impact and relevancy over a decade later. Others waxed poetic on where they were or how old they were when Pac died (I was 2 weeks shy of 10 years old + in the barber shop when I found out) and have been sharing their favorite songs of his.
Just this weekend, I had a drunk friend of mine claim to have studied this for three years and lay out his 2Pac conspiracy theory. Using the uncut version of 2Pac's "Made N*ggaz" video. He pointed out the depiction of Biggie Smalls' death, the fact that all of Shakur's iconic tattoos were gone in the video (I argued they were covered up) and the existence of a team of Federal investigators to track down where he really is. Obviously, I'm not one for conspiracy theories.
Florence and the Machine have gotten some more attention thanks to their performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last night, so here's the new video for their song "Heavy in your Arms" from the Twilight: Eclipse soundtrack.

Making a left into a dimly-lit industrial area just past Tremont Music Hall late on a Friday night, you'd probably expect to stumble upon a B&E, much less a recording session.
Checking the address twice, I parked outside Charles Holloman Productions and after getting buzzed into the building, I'm instantly blown away by the inside. It's pretty lush, no way you could tell from the outside. Walking past two women doing vocal warm-ups in the hallway, one of them points me towards the studio, "Jeff's in there."
Charlotte native and indie hip-hop performer, Jeff Lucky, is back in town from L.A., where he moved a few years ago, to wrap up production on his next album, Soul Motivation, due out later this year on SummerSoul Records.
Did you catch the MTV Video Music Awards last night? I did, regretfully.
It's almost disappointing that pretty much the same five artists are nominated for every award and they've become so predictable in their monotony that it's hardly even entertainment anymore.
I'm sure some tuned in just to see what Lady Gaga would wear pretty much a different outfit each time she was on camera, including a meat dress.
Seriously... it's sad. Have you read this article from the Sunday Times about Lady Gaga? Sure is interesting... So is this one.
Anyway, back to the awards. I wasn't impressed. Florence and the Machine and Eminem held their own against a sea of crap. Why would they let Drake hack up a song over the blissful vocals of Mary J. Blige? Why in the world would they let Justin Bieber sing or lip synch and dance around? Taylor Swift showcased a more mature side while Kanye West proved he's still a douchebag, asshole and jerk off.
Chelsea Handler did her best to have fun, but her jokes were weak, no one cares about her sidekick and it was at times hard to watch especially as she jumped in the tub with the moronic Jersey Shore cast. Aziz Ansari did the painful intro to Kanye West's performance. Who thought that was funny in any way?
Of course Lady Gaga won a bunch of awards because that's who all of the sheep are following these days. Is it odd to anyone else that she calls her fans "little monsters"? Too often when I watch her costumes and hear her talking it comes across as too much of an act instead of something honest and dedicated.
I've had my fingers crossed for this one for a while and, luckily, everything fell into place. The Smoker's Club Tour, co-headlined by Curren$y, Big K.R.I.T. and Smoke DZA, comes through Charlotte on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Amos' Southend. Tickets and more details will be available in the meantime but expect good things from this show.
Kings of Leon, The Black Keys, The Whigs
Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre
Sept. 10, 2010
The Deal: Kings of Leon return to Charlotte and bring along solid opening acts.
The Good: Last time around, Kings of Leon couldn't sell out the Bojangles Coliseum, but this time Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre was packed with KoL fans and those who came out to see the openers, as well.
