Flogging Molly tonight (2-15-2011)

Posted By on Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 9:21 AM

FLOGGING MOLLY With the use of traditional Celtic instruments such as violin, mandolin and accordion, one would obviously think this Irish-sounding band was from across the waters, but that's not the case. Dublin-born lead singer and songwriter Dave King brings his Irish expatriate to the sound of Flogging Molly, whose energetic melodies will have even the most inexperienced person attempting the riverdance. Having met in a bar over 12 years ago, the seven-member band continues to travel performing its rare mix of instrument usage and insightful lyrics to their growing fan base. $25. Live review: Hellblinki, The Lost Souls Traveling Show, Kenni Falls

Hellblinki, The Lost Souls Traveling Show, Kenni Falls

The Milestone

Feb. 10, 2011

The Deal: One night, long ago, I stumbled upon Hellblinki at Snug Harbor when they followed a Sonic Death Rabbit set and had my world rocked. Ever since then, I have been in love with them and every time they come into town I am determined to make it out to their show. That's why, when they came through with Kenni Falls and The Lost Souls Traveling Show, I was giddier than Augustus Gloop surrounded by chocolate.

Bonnaroo excitement builds

Posted By on Mon, Feb 14, 2011 at 11:39 AM

The lineup for the 10th Annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival is due at noon tomorrow, so you know those rumor mills are going full speed. Not helping the cause was AC Entertainment's Ashley Capps who sent out a Twitter message last night simply stating, "Holy shit! The line up for #Bonnaroo just went over the top tonight...beyond thrilled. Great line up and some once in a lifetime shows."

With rumors of Arcade Fire as a headliner and the band winning album of the year, I'm guessing that could have sparked his comments. Outside of that you also had a performance by rumored 'Roo attendees Cee-Lo Green and Mumford & Sons. Capps also sent out a Twitter mentioning Esperanza Spalding.

Or perhaps they got some last-minute signings that will make the lineup bigger than he expected. OR, he's just trying to hype his festival in any way that he can.

Other headliner rumors range from Widespread Panic, Robert Plant and the Band of Joy, My Morning Jacket and The Black Keys to anyone from The Rolling Stones or Rage Against the Machine to Radiohead and Eminem. R.E.M. has also been thrown in the mix.

If you look at the recently uploaded videos to Bonnaroo.com, you'll see Widespread Panic, My Morning Jacket, Robert Plant and Primus.

Meanwhile, Radiohead has announced that its new album will be available for download on Saturday...

So, here's the summary of who is expected; we'll see tomorrow who is right or wrong:

Arcade Fire

Widespread Panic

Robert Plant and Band of Joy

My Morning Jacket

Primus

The Black Keys

Florence And the Machine

Big Boi

Gregg Allman

Robyn

Mumford & Sons

53rd Annual Grammy results

Posted By on Mon, Feb 14, 2011 at 10:38 AM

Wow, what a night! First off, big congratulations to The Avett Brothers for a fantastic performance and great job backing up Bob Dylan!

Who wasn't surprised by some of the night's biggest awards? Lady Antebellum received the award for Song and Record of the Year, Esperanza Spalding won Best New Artist and Arcade Fire won Album of the Year. Never would have guessed it!

Here were my predictions. Overall, I got a terrible 39 right out of the 109 categories. Some of my "second choices" were correct; and I also oddly talked myself out of some winners... Oh well. With so many surprises in the main categories, I'm not shocked by my results.

Darsombra tonight (2-13-2011)

Posted By on Sun, Feb 13, 2011 at 9:21 AM

DARSOMBRA Primarily the compositional and sound manipulation chops of guitarist Brian Daniloski, Darsombra is a noise, psychedelic, ambient-laden one-man band. Now with video artist Ann Everton in tow, expect an added visual element to jar the senses. But it's not all sound effects and guitar noise manipulation; Daniloski has neoclassical compositional chops, to boot. With Asound, Greevace, and the Gloominous Doom. $7-$9. Songs of Water tonight (2-12-2011)

Posted By on Sat, Feb 12, 2011 at 9:21 AM

SONGS OF WATER It's not easy to describe the music of Songs of Water. The generally instrumental music takes influence from European sources as much as from Americana and Appalachia. The result is a fluid, energetic, rhythmic swirling of sound that brings your attention to all directions — strings, drums, guitar. With Ben and Vesper and The Benjamin Circle. $8-$10. 8 p.m. Visulite Theatre. www.visulite.com.
