Big Sam's Funky Nation bring high-octane, danceable sound tonight (8/26/11)

Big Sam's Funky Nation Big sound emanates from the combo led by Big Sam, former trombone player for the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Monstrously high-octane funk that could only have bloomed in New Orleans blankets listeners, who if they’re not up and dancing or swaying their noggins within seconds when BSFN hits the stage, must be on their way to the morgue. Horns, pumping rhythm section, and bass that won’t quit color this Crescent City combo’s sound. With Captain Midnight. $12-$15. Double Door Inn. www.doubledoorinn.com. (Samir Shukla)
