Husband-wife duo strip down the sound

Posted By on Fri, Sep 2, 2011 at 8:42 AM

SHOVELS & ROPE Singer Cary Ann Hearst was doing just fine as a solo artist, but pairing up with husband Michael Trent brings a bit more emotion and attitude to the music. Armed with two guitars and a junkyard drum set, the duo conjures up front-porch folk that's stripped down from the polish and is 100 percent substance. They were last in town on a tour with Hayes Carll. With The Catch Fire and Perry Fowler. $7. 10 p.m. Snug Harbor.
