Memory House's sublime melodies tonight (10/25/11)

Posted By on Tue, Oct 25, 2011 at 12:00 AM

Memory House With their 5-song debut EP, The Years, making waves in all the right ponds (Pitchfork, Stereogum, et al), the Toronto-based duo of Evan Abeele and Denise Nouvion finds itself signed to Sub Pop, the Seattle label that has moved so far from its Grunge roots it sounds more like vintage 4AD nowadays. And Memory House may be the culmination of that metamorphosis: Sublime melodies emerge like shafts of late afternoon sunlight through a forest of reverb, tinkling keys and shuffling beats, Nouvion’s gossamer vocals floating over it all like a half-remembered dream. With Yes Professor and Jesse Clasen. $8/$10. Snug Harbor. www.snugrock.com. (John Schacht)
