K. Michelle
The Fillmore
Feb. 26, 2015
It didn't take long for K. Michelle to offer a quick apology to any woman in the Fillmore audience on Thursday night who came with her significant other. "It's not my fault if someone starts sending me flowers," she told the crowd. "I just tell it like it is and have to be honest." That statement might have been made in vain, though, because when she asked how many single women were there that night, cheers exploded.
A Silent Film has announced its Secret Rooms Tour, which includes a date in Charlotte on May 8. Here's the catch — the U.K.-based alt-rock duo hasn't announced where the show will take place... and that's kinda the point.
The Secret Rooms Tour is a series of intimate shows taking place in nontraditional venues around the country. Fans will need to go online between now and March 4 to register to purchase tickets.
The band will play new music as well as fan favorites and there will also be photo, autograph and conversation opportunities with the band throughout the night. Those who purchase tickets will also get their name in the new EP's liner notes, receive a signed poster from their show and a copy of the EP, New Year, when it's available on April 21.
Tickets for the event are $100 with a second ticket available for $50.

* The day after the Oscars, not everyone is talking about the awards that were handed out. Catching a lot of buzz this morning is Lady Gaga's tribute to Sound of Music. There are plenty of people saying, "Who knew she could sing?!?" after that. We always knew she could sing, but her over-the-top antics usually overshadowed her voice. Maybe we should thank Tony Bennett for calming her down a bit?

* Even if you watched the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special last night, you and just about everyone else (myself included) missed the after party which apparently went until 4 a.m. and featured jam sessions involving Paul McCartney, Prince, Jimmy Fallon, Taylor Swift, HAIM and plenty of others.
* Alice Cooper, Joe Perry and Johnny Depp are forming a supergroup of sorts called Hollywood Vampires. The band's debut gig will be at Rock in Rio in September.
* Jack White responds to all the attention that his alleged guacamole recipe has received and blames journalists who look for click bait.
* Father John Misty released a new album, I Love You, Honeybear, last week, but it's the bonus single he released online that has everyone talking. Check out his sparse cover of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box":
* Tremont Music Hall announced "The Fest on Tremont" taking place on March 29. The lineup includes: DJ Complete, Deniro Farrar, Flagship, Serfs, Justin Aswell, Well$, It Looks Sad, The Business People, Hectorina and a whole bunch more.
Charlotte rock quartet Grown Up Avenger Stuff has released a video for their song "Pins." The song is a good example of the band's sound and energy — Deirdre Kroener's vocal range and power, guitarist John Thomsen's riffs, Hunter Thomsen's driving bass rhythms along with Tyler Thomsen's hammering drum skills.

Ingrid Michaelson
The Fillmore
Feb. 6, 2015
Kicking off with "Home," the first song from her 2014 album Lights Out, Michaelson found plenty of time to share her witty humor between her pop-folk tunes as the majority-female audience sang along to every word. The only complaint may have been that the show was too short, as it wrapped up in less than an hour and 15 minutes.
To the crowd's delight, Michaelson played a wide range of songs from her six studio albums, though perhaps fans wanted more than 16 songs, as energetic as the crowd was.
Toleman Randall, Grey Revell's Roman Candles
Double Door Inn
Feb. 7, 2015
Glancing at hand-written notes scrawled on a crumpled envelope at his feet, Funderburk launched into limpid pastoral chords backed by rolling breakers from Kyle Dussault Carinelli's liquid keys. The supple but crunchy rhythm section of bassist John Liccare and drummer Charlie Heard built up steam, like a semi-trailer shifting gears to top a rise in the road. The gathering thunderhead broke with sheets of searing psych-blues guitar runs from Funderburk.
All of this from a band flying without a setlist, electrically wired to Funderburk. The face-melting lava lamp fretwork created tension and contrast to Toleman Randall's clean, uncluttered arrangements, rootsy song structures and the grainy fog of Funderburk's insular vocals and impressionist wordplay.
The Chris Brown concert scheduled for tonight, Feb. 9, at Time Warner Cable Arena has been rescheduled for March 14. Brown hasn't performed any of the scheduled dates for the Between the Sheetz Tour yet because of ongoing legal issues.
He originally delayed the tour to complete a stint of community service (at least eight have been postponed), but on Friday announced that he has completed it and was looking forward to the tour. Hollywood Life is reporting that the tour will resume on Feb. 12.
