Do I qualify for two gifts, one for being an African American and another for being a woman?
I listened to Mitt Romney's phone-call comments to supporters explaining his loss and President Obama's win by pretty much concluding that the incumbent bought voters using shiny toys - health care, the Dream Act and free birth control. I thought, this guy really does believe that 47 percent of Americans are "victims." I don't even think he considers minorities, women, gays and others who voted for Obama American at all. But I do know that Romney likes to insult most of America when he thinks only like minds are listening. (Would we even want a president who hasn't figured out that nothing stays secret for long?)
Occupiers nationwide will gather in front of stores, including Wal-Mart and Macy's, on Black Friday to divert shoppers from big chains to local mom-and-pops - or to distract them from shopping at all - according to USA Today. Animal activists will gather outside the Macy's Herald Square store in Manhattan to demonstrate the use of fur in clothing.
Scotty Wingfield of Charlotte Occupy said the local group is planning to somehow support the nationwide Wal-Mart protests, though she didn't provide specifics.

Garrett Alexander resigned as Mecklenburg County tax assessor Tuesday night after overseeing a revaluation in 2011 that has caused major controversy and headaches.
A later review of the revaluation "turned up evidence that potentially 10 percent of Mecklenburg County neighborhoods were assessed unfairly," according to WFAE.
Reviewers also found terrible customer service at the tax assessor's office and discovered it had been 17 years since appraisers had visited properties in-person to update information in the county's records.

Effective Wed., Dec. 19, the Charlotte Observer will join about 300 newspapers nationwide, including The New York Times, in limiting access to online content.
The real-life scandal of Gen. David Petraeus' affair with his biographer Paula Broadwell got a soap opera makeover on Thursday night's The Colbert Report. Susan Lucci, star of the now-defunct soap opera "All My Children," appeared on the Comedy Central show to add to an already complicated storyline. Complete with cheesy camera close-ups, Lucci said Petraeus developed amnesia and couldn't remember he was pregnant with the child of his evil twin, who was in a coma - and her lover. She also fake slapped Colbert in her mock defense of Petraeus.
Does Charlotte lack culture?
After spending three years here, Sambou Kamissoko said it does. He and his father immigrated to America from Mali nine years ago and brought the rich history of their continent.
"I'm a guy who loves culture, and pretty much since I've been in Charlotte I haven't seen many cultural events that inspire me that much," said Kamissoko, organizer of Saturday's African Arts & Culture event. Made up of more than 50 countries, 1,500 languages and thousands of ethnic groups, Africa is one of the most diverse continents in the world. "This is something I believe Charlotte should know about because we are a very diverse community."
