Best Of 2011

Staff Pick

The gentlemen of Yardwork have begun making waves outside the city limits, and an official Hopscotch date is just reward for this year's excellent full-length debut, Brotherer. Channeling a one-for-all mindset into tribal thumping beats and winding guitar parts, then blasted with horns, the music is an ode to kinship and music-making. What sets Yardwork apart from current bands using similar elements is the punk energy that fires their vision - there are live gigs when you're sure they will actually combust into a joyous conflagration.
